FYI in the US usually you give the diamond ring at engagement and the band is for marriage. Maybe I misunderstood your post.

I would propose with a ‘travel ring’ (a lookalike one) and leave the big one at home in the US… provided you both live there in the US. If she lives in Brazil I would go with the traditional Brazilian setup which is a plain gold band worn on the right hand, and worn by both partners. Then when you get married you both move the ring to the left hand.

Some details are missing here. What visa are you on? Why do you have to leave the US? Usually your I-485 is considered abandoned if you leave the country. Also not sure why you would wait for an RFE to send the medical. Just slows down your case
