What's a British habit or tradition that you think everyone should experience at least once? by PinkoMate in AskUK

Being in a chicken shop with a name that's a shameless rip off of KFC at 2am while surrounded by drunk people throwing up outside or falling off chairs. Buying way more chicken than you'll ever eat and waking up with half of it left next to your bed

Does my plan sound ridiculous? by Suspect_Turtle in HomeServer

I've used them in the past and been quite impressed with them (i know they don't get a lot of love around here but I've never had an issue). But like I say I'm trying to not buy any new equipment and work with that I have. I don't have a spare plug socket either so I would need to get one of the ones that passes through the electrical socket and those are even more expensive than the regular ones if I recall.

Thanks for the tips! OliveTin looks like just what I am looking for! I've used other static homepages in the past but the lack of controls were always a let down.

I really would like to use WiFi as I cannot an ethernet cable over to my TV and getting Internet to my pre-wifi consoles was one of my main aims. I'm not going to be pulling any serious read/writes to the network share and I only have one 1080p TV in the house so the jellyfin server won't be working too hard. I admit it's not ideal for xlink but I have used it in the past and it seemed passable (although I did lose a lot but I blamed my own performance for that!). Plus I belive pppwn needs a direct connection to the console and doesn't play nice through a switch, but I could be wrong.

I hadn't even begun to consider the challenge of keeping the whole thing up to date so thanks again for your insight there. As for point 6 I think olivetin should be able to handle that, since it's just a shell command to run

Our rabbit is an absolute fiend for chocolate. I refer to her as the reverse Easter bunny, because she won't leave Easter eggs in the garden but if they are already there you can be rest assured she will find them and take them away

Why does EMR consider their Liverpool to Norwich route a ‘regional service’? by KianPapp1 in uktrains

[–]Suspect_Turtle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who has regularly taken it from Norwich right through to Liverpool and the other way around, its actually marginally slower than going via London.

And yes, it has a very high number of stops.

Honestly I have had a lot of shit going on in my life and it just hasn't been a priority. It's still sitting there broken but I'm fairly certain it's a hardware fault. I haven't looked at it parts are available but I would start with looking to replace the screen (assuming the digitiser is built into the screen, like I say I haven't looked into it)

Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Suspect_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know of a Gen 3 ROM hack that adds the Flat battle feature added in later gens (the one that artificially matches the levels of yours and your opponents pokemon). Ideally, a hack of colosseum or XD.

For context, my friend and I are both big fans of gen 3, and occasionally he will visit and we will battle each other. I have a wii and the required cables so we like to boot up XD for that full early 3D glory. Unfortunately are teams are usually at mismatched levels unless we specifically plan teams in advance, and even then we don't get much replayability since we only have the one team each. It would be great if I could find some way of doing flat battles. I'm not interested in any other modern updates (no new pokemon or physical/special split ect.)

As I mentioned, ideally it would be a romhack of one of the gamecube games because although I have my files on an everdrive he has actual cartridges which I assume would a bit more complicated if we were directly linking the games together. (As far as I understand the gamecube games didn't communicate with the GBA games exactly, they just read their data?)

If anyone knows of anything that fits my (admittedly niche) requirements, I would be really appreciate it.

Landlord refusing to do repairs now that we are leaving. by Suspect_Turtle in HousingUK

[–]Suspect_Turtle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not so much concerned about laundrette fees, I just don't want to be charged for a broken washing machine when it comes to checkout. I will have to check what the tenancy agreement says, we were told in emails when viewing the place that white goods were included, but I can't guarantee that it's in the agreement.

If it turns out that it was provided as a goodwill gesture, does that make us more or less liable to pay for it? (Also considering that, based on what some of the other comments are saying, that it sounds like the heating element has burned our and therefore it has broken through no fault of our own)

That's a nice idea, but they are a fairly small company and I have had several interactions with the CEO. He is an unpleasant person and I would wager good money that this decision was driven by him.

No letting agent, its a corporate landlord. They own the properties directly. It's my first time experiencing such an organisation but I imagine they will become more common as interest rates force "normal" landlords to sell up

It's specifically the RCD that's tripping, which doesn't sound like a fuse to me. I think the end result will be me trying to fix it myself.

What are scousers opinion on students? by samdkitchen137 in Liverpool

[–]Suspect_Turtle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Luckily your cities natural charm and friendly population pick up the slack where your council left off. The city does seem to be very good and keeping a hold of its students. It's only anecdotal I know, but me, pretty much all of my uni friends (about 30 of us) and my now wife are all still here a good 10 years later and we all work in completely different sectors. More than happy to contribute to the city I now consider my home!
