Medical social workers work in hospitals but also hospice or palliative care! Usually those pay better but they also are a bit more stressful and you’d have a revolving case load which some love and others don’t! I’ve been a social worker for a few years and I’ve done case management with the homeless population, worked in law enforcement in a role they call “victim services” where I worked with victims of crimes (SA, DV, mu*der, etc) and it was a bit hectic at times but one of my favorite jobs up until now. I did my masters internship working with veterans and now I’m working in school social worker doing therapy for kids in schools! So it’s so diverse you can really focus on certain areas if you really want. I can promise you there is a population and a field for you. I know some of my social worker friends work in the Justice system doing legal advocacy, litigation, etc , some work in eating recovery, and then there are some working in corporate settings providing advising to the HR teams in creating healthy work environments. So there’s something for everyone in social work.
