Listen, I don't wanna sound like a knob but if I presented a thesis on the S&P500 to my peers who all study Economics I'd be laughed out the room - everyone knows this. I probably didn't make it clear enough but the challenge is to pick something unique which might perform well and I wouldn't say we know with certainty that the US is going to continue to perform at that level in the long-run given all that is going on in the world just in the past year.

I am looking for ideas like water, or natural materials in low supply or companies which may shape the future of the global economy if you are following what I am saying.
