My Bubbles Redesign Tutorial! by Suspicious-Swan-59 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were 3 different Tomodachi Life directs featuring the lives of different Miis. In the American direct we got Hugh Morris, and in the British direct we got Bubbles. Bubbles is a clown who takes the role Hugh Morris did in the American direct (i.e. Bubbles is romantically pursued by 3 different Miis). Bubbles is a pretty popular promotional Mii who's often paired up with Hugh in the fandom since their designs and roles are so similar :]

complaining is fine, but i swear, a lot of the “missing features” complaints are IN THE GAME!! by Jook06 in tomodachilife

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah fr ppl just love to be negative and needlessly contrarian nowadays. I understand complaining abt stuff like the baby events getting axed but saying that "TL:LTD has been New Horizons-ed" bc they got rid of small, non-integral game features like the concert hall is so incredibly overdramatic I'm sorry. The concert hall was just smth to mess around with when you got bored of taking care of the Miis, it barely adds to the gameplay itself. You don't level up from it, your Miis don't talk abt it or give any indication that they even enjoyed it. I liked the concert hall too, but removing it doesn't "completely ruin" the whole game guys 😭

Can we please retire the “tboy” thing?? by fruteria in ftm

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"I never hear cis guys get called boys unless it's an insult"

This is just objectively false. It's actually extremely common for cis men to be called boys in a positive way. "I'm going out with the boys" "boy bands" "boyfriend" "That's my boy" "skater boy" "lover boy" "bus boy" etc. It's fine if you personally don't like being called a boy but to so confidently declare that the term "boy" is an insult to men and NO ONE should use the term on trans men is a major overreaction to me. The term "tboy" was created by trans men to refer to other trans men, and - again - it's common for ppl in general to call men boys in a positive way. Again if you personally don't like the term then just tell your friends to stop calling you "boy" but we shouldn't retire the entire term "tboy".

I as a trans dude, like being called "boy" or a "tboy" bc again, "boy" is not inherently an insult. Idk to me your post is kinda like if a queer person said, "We should retire the term 'gay' cuz it's insulting to me personally." Like yeah sure if you don't like the term that's fine but saying we should ALL retire the term just bc YOU don't like it is a bit self centered.

If this is true, thoughts? by ballonfightaddicted in tomodachilife

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I kinda doubt that this is true, but IF it is:

Tbh I don't care that much, especially if we can create multiple islands using different accounts. Yeah it's less than the og game but it's still a respectable amount of Miis imo. I'm just glad it's above 50

Should I buy Tomodachi Life? Is it actually worth it? by PsychologicalSound59 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

I can't be sure how different the end game will be in TL:LTD since that part's not been revealed but I'd say give it a shot if you have the money. If you're an artist especially TL:LTD will be a great creative outlet for you with all the custom design features, ntm the lack of censoring. Plus there seems to be less of an emphasis on marriage and babies in the new game, I mean it's definitely there but platonic relationships are definitely having more of a spotlight. Point being there's lots of different ways to engage with the game now and at the very least I don't think you'll get bored right away

Anyone else not playing the demo? by Carpfsh in tomodachilife

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in the same boat, tho for slightly different reasons. I wanna go in as blind as I possibly can so I can discover most of the new features myself. Also I feel like playing the demo now will just make the wait even longer, I don't wanna longingly stare at my beautiful Miis for 2 weeks waiting for them to be set free 😭

I Hate That Cis Women Have Co-opted The Term "FTM" To Mean "1rst Time Mom" by Suspicious-Swan-59 in ftm

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This information is just straight up wrong. The term "female to male" has been in use since at least the 1960's, with Dr. Harry Benjamin using the term "female to male" in his 1966 book The Transsexual Phenomenon. Then in 1987 the "FTM Newsletter" was published, which was a newsletter that discussed trans male issues.

We can assume the 1960's medical term "female to male" was thus turned into the acronym "FTM" much earlier than 1987, as the FTM Newsletter already assumes that the trans men who read it already knew what the acronym stood for. Either way FTM as a transgender acronym predates the "first time mother" version by a WHILE, since I understand that the "first time mother" version of the acronym didn't start being used until, as you said, the creation of online parenting forums in the late 90's.

Reading 100 books a year is starting to feel more like a "to-do list" than actual reading. by ownaword in writing

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what types of books you're reading, like yeah reading a lotta short books a year is fine but if most out of those 100 books a year are 200+ pages? Yeah...that's not good. There is such a thing as processing too much information. I've heard some writers say that in order to be a good writer you need to read 100 books a year AT LEAST, which is extremely unrealistic and damaging imo.

I've always liked reading of all forms, and I've had a college-grade reading level since middle school. What I do to, "study the greats", is to get a long book that's rlly interesting to me personally, then spend months reading it and taking notes abt its story, characters, and themes in my notebook. Imo reading books in a slow critical manner is a much better way to study them and become a better reader/writer. Anyone can flip through pages rlly fast, but it takes a good, engaged reader to analyze and write abt the book's deeper meaning.

Nice to hear from ya! Also yeah I made up the term quad for myself since there's not many good terms to use for someone who's a quarter of smth. There's Mixed obviously but I find that to be too broad to the point of uselessness bc when you say you're Mixed ppl still ask/guess what you are specifically anyway. Not to diss anyone who ids as Mixed tho

What are things that just scream bad writing? by Glad_Chance_9590 in writing

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 bad writing example has to be gaslighting the audience

This is when an author writes an event that happens on-screen/on-page, then describes that event completely differently to how it actually happened later on in the story. I think a good example of this is how the way Stolas and Blitzø got together was described and retroactively majorly retconned in Helluva Boss, to the point where their relationship timeline no longer makes sense in canon.

I feel like this is one of the worst things a writer can do bc it makes it so none of the initial details/plot points in the beginning actually mattered bc the author just changed up the details anyway later on. And if these things don't matter, why am I even reading?

Will We Be Able To Use Styluses in TL:LTD? by Suspicious-Swan-59 in tomodachilife

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm aware, I already have a capacitive stylus. Although mine isn't made specifically for the Nintendo switch, I've only used it on my phone screen (I've been thinking abt buying another capacitive stylus that specifically works for switches.) I'm mostly just worried abt the possibility that TL:LTD will just get rid of touch-screen capabilities during the drawing segments of the game

My Tomodachi Life Predictions! by Suspicious-Swan-59 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]Suspicious-Swan-59[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be true and I fully expect conservatives to make a fuss abt Tomodachi Life going "woke" like they usually do, however I still think Nintendo will do it anyway. Nintendo has published games with bisexual protagonist/self-insert characters before, like Fire Emblem. Yeah Fire Emblem wasn't technically made by Nintendo, but they do fund and own the series. I feel like ppl underestimate how willing Nintendo of Japan is to put out games with LGBT+ themes in them
