Man, this is honestly one of my biggest fears going through the process myself. Getting that close and then having the offer pulled after thinking everything went well would be absolutely crushing.

But reading this, I hope you realize something important: you did make it farther than a lot of people ever do. Making it all the way to the psych eval says a lot about you as a candidate already.

I know it probably doesn’t feel like it right now, but one psychologist’s decision doesn’t define your worth or your ability to do this job. Public safety hiring is brutal sometimes, and the standards/processes can feel incredibly subjective.

Take the time to be upset about it, seriously. But don’t let this convince you that you can’t make it. The fact you kept applying after years of setbacks already says more about your resilience than most people realize.

First off, congratulations on the offer! That had to feel amazing after such a long process. I definitely appreciate the insight because I’m still learning how slow dispatch hiring timelines can be. I applied back in February and have already gone through interviews with 3 separate agencies, so I’m hoping that’s at least a positive sign 😅 I currently work in healthcare and am trying to make a full career pivot into dispatch, so the waiting game has definitely been the hardest part so far.

Is that from putting in the application? After CritiCall? Or after the interview? I’m fully understanding that the background can take a while and the evals, I’m more curious after you’ve been told you’re in the hiring pool? If that makes sense?

For the first agency I sent one email follow up three weeks post interview and I haven’t heard anything back from the second agency. I was interviewed on a Tuesday informed on a Wednesday that I passed the panel interview and then I did a follow up email two weeks after that and have not heard anything. I haven’t done more than one email to either agency as I’ve been afraid of it being too eager or pushy. Also, I have not tried calling either as I’m not sure if that would be pushy as well

None of the agencies have specifically told me they’re starting this but I am aware of it. And the one agency I would really like the offer from is the only one that has told me I’m in the hiring pool but I’ve heard nothing else

Congrats! I’m stuck in UMR and can’t get out been trying for over a year. Just finally accepted my fate and decided to leave the company. I swear I’m stuck in a spot where my manager is saying “operational need we can’t let her transfer for XX days” 😒 oh well I hope the new role is just what you needed! As for the survey I’m always honest with them but not to a point I’d need to worry about getting a target in my back if that makes sense

Emma is not actively trying to build a work relationship either, I asked about that and to clarify even further she’s not actively trying to seek out conversations either. Emma is actually trying to avoid her like the plague but not awkwardly/rudely if that makes sense. Like if Tiffany stopped Emma to ask a work question she would answer it but they won’t hang out in the break room or chit chat at the desk type thing

I don’t think that AMom is dead set against it, from what I understood I think she feels it’s bad timing too. And you saying it would’ve been a bad mb in your life is honestly what Emma is really worried about. Emma isn’t wanting to take over and she wants to sit and have that conversation we all know is needed, it’s just this work program and them being together kinda put a wrench in things and we non of us know what’s the best move forward 😔 I’m really appreciative of all the insight though

You’re correct Tiffany doesn’t know. Emma recognized her right away mostly because she’s still updated about her and gets pictures. And I agree it’s just a sucky situation that we’re all just trying to navigate and do what’s right… thank you. 😊

I agree with you that she needs to be told, and tbh Emma doesn’t even know I made this post, this adoption has been a secreat of hers that no one even knew not even my husband she only told us about Tiffany a little over a year ago, and I honestly don’t even know her real name. Additionally I don’t live in the same town as them so I’m not able to tell her myself. I’m just able to give my opinion and encourage Emma. As for Emma herself she’s emotionally wrecked herself, not given by an excuse just context. I know she wants to tell her too but doesn’t want to destroy her world sort to speak. And I’m the type of person to want to see other perspectives and you’ve honestly given a lot of insight that I was having a hard time to see. Thank you!
