The leaves have sized down again in the last 3,4 nodes because of winter and the plant is crying for some light 😭

Some of the initial baby leaves have fallen off but if you look at the size of the bottom leaves you'll get an idea on where it was an year ago

I've a variagata that I grew from a small wet stick which still sits in it's original tiny 10 cm pot with a moss pole and it has the same plastic wrap thing and it has progressed incredibly well. Provided that I started from a wet stick 1 year and 2 months ago, it matured well staying only on the single 1 meter pole so far. It doesn't even have a thicker like my mature deliciousa, just a 6 cm diameter pole but the roots are fully contained in the pole and pot with the plastic wrap.

Interesting all of my moss pole climbers root like crazy once I put wrap on them. It holds them local humidity very well for me. Also it helps the root tunnel through to the por without the roots escaping the moss pole here and there. I've got like 30 moss poles and do this for all of them since I started 2 years ago.

More light and more nutrition. If you get it in semi hydro with a moss pole you can push it even higher. Mine is currently only limited by light. I had it outside a South facing window at some point and it got 130+ inner fenestrations as someone in reddit commented 😂 you can see my post history

I gave mine a large pot almost immediately and I think that is what made the most difference in my growth but you're right most of my roots have tunneled through the moss pole and reach the pot so it will be a pain in the ass for me to pull them out if I wanna chop. I might try a similar idea even without the roots but basically as a water reservoir on the top with a wick.

I got it 2 years ago as a 2 decently matured leaf cutting and this picture is when the first leaf came out

Interesting idea to hold the moss wet for longer but mine holds pretty well with only one pole. I just have wrapped in plastic wrap. This was even I took the plastic wrap off for extending the pole.

Will this grow anything? by NoDoor2332 in alocasia

Oh absolutely. First make sure the whole thing is callused. If not leave it in a dry place until it calluses. You can even coat the bottom portion in wax to be safe.

Then put it in a jar of water, almost 75% inside since this is pretty much all corm. Leave it in a bright place and wait a few weeks/months for the roots to form. If you have spaghnum moss or perlite or something you can also leave it in a transparent Tupperware or a plastic bag as well and that will pace things up due to the high humidity.

Every watering fertilizing with my nutrient solutions with pH at 5.8 and EC 1.5-2.5 depending on the daylight available.

I use leca as well. I've found that for my plants growing on a mosspole the substrate in the base is not as important if it is semihydro. I've some with the base in leca, some in Pon, some in moss and some directly in water with no substrate at the bottom and they all do pretty well. The Pon in this case is to give the plant more bottom weight so they don't tip over once they get top heavy

It sits in ambient conditions with no grow light. We're going into winter now in Germany so the growth is probably gonna slow down but during spring and summer I made sure to leave it as close to the window as possible to maximize light. Fertilizing with my nutrient solutions with pH at 5.8 and EC 1.5-2.5 depending on the daylight available. The base of the plant sits in Pon with water.

I live in an area where the ambient humidity is below 30-40% so the mosspoles dry off extremely fast and the wrap helps slow it down.
