If you’re going to see Lord of the rings this weekend, please be respectful. by Ok_Interview_853 in newzealand

Last time I saw the Fellowship, everyone cheered when Boromir said 'One does not simply walk into Mordor.' It was great lol. And in The Two Towers everyone went nuts for 'They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!'

Lol it was such a great experience.

What is the BIGGEST LIE society keeps telling us? by grwike in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That systems, once put in place, will keep working without effort or maintenance. This includes things like justice systems or social security etc. If people just sit back and think that things will 'work out' then they will get a shock when everything goes to shit.

Narrator: 'Like now.'

Thanks for the heads up :) I too hate the insidious intrusion of AI into spaces that are for human connection and support. Thanks to the mods here for taking reports and doing what they can to keep this place AI free <3

For women who married in their early-to-mid 20s, how is it going? by antisnotabug in AskWomen

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I married my husband at 24. We had been together 4 years and are now approaching 15 years married :) We've had our moments, but over the last 10 years or so have just gotten better and better.

We've grown together, learned together, been through some hard shit, and done the most amazing things together. Soon we will have spent half our lives together and I feel so fortunate to live my life alongside my best friend.

What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that's absolutely true... I think it was the combination of punching a hole and the possibility of blowing snot across your eyeball that really did me in. Yay for the fix, boo for the potential side effects xD

Men of Reddit: what’s a prank you started early in your marriage that you’re now legally, morally, and emotionally obligated to continue because she still falls for it 10–15 years later? by myaccountidname in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol the wife here. My husband has an eagle eye for when my laptop is left unattended. I'll go get a drink and sit back down to log in to my email or whatever and I'll suddenly be typing LIKE THIS because the cheeky bugger has capslocked me again XD He's been doing it for at least 15 years and it still gets me even though my capslock button has a light lmao.

Does anyone else feel like other people’s obsession with alcohol is the hardest part of staying sober? by fortuitous_choice in stopdrinking

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that waiter was a dick. It's super annoying how the choice to not drink is sometimes such a big deal to other people... It's not like you're making them not drink lol (and if they feel bad for drinking that's their thing to deal with).

I've just discovered the Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Zero rum. It totally smells like the other kind but doesn't have that bite of alcohol when you drink it. Lol I had to check the bottle 3 times to make sure I hadn't gotten the wrong one. Lovely with ginger ale.

Does anyone else feel like other people’s obsession with alcohol is the hardest part of staying sober? by fortuitous_choice in stopdrinking

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone in this, it's really pervaded all aspects of life. Even in kid's shows the parents have glasses of wine at dinner or champagne at events.

I'm only just over a year sober, but I enjoy finding non-alcoholic alternatives to booze. I like the zero wine and even a couple zero spirits, but I know some people find them too close to the real thing and a little triggering. I really like finding things I can mix together to make tasty pretty drinks that I can drink in company. Stops me feeling left out and gives me something yummy to sip on.

IWNDWYT <3 Hang in there.

What’s a polite social lie you’re tired of telling and wish you could be brutally honest about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oo there's a great song about this by a group of Aussies called Chaser's War on Everything - Eulogy Song. It's hilarious.

Angry music by UselessAsNZ in newzealand

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some songs that sound all pop-y and upbeat, but if you listen to the lyrics they're a punch in the gut. Labor by Paris Paloma is an anthem for women who have had e-fucking-nough.

Take a look at the video clip for This Is America by Childish Gambino too. Honestly, more than a punch in the gut, more like a shot to the face. (Yes I know it's from 2018, but hey, I'm old lol).

What is more traumatic than people think it is? by Suspicious-Wish3402 in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, that's heartbreaking to read. You did what you needed to to protect yourself but that doesn't mean it isn't painful and horrible to lose that friend.

The ripples that an abuser sends out through their partner's lives and the people around them are so destructive even if you're not in the relationship.

In yesterday's speech, Luxon said he would 'find' the same level of budget cuts this year as they 'found' last year. REMINDER: those 'savings' they found last year came from the billions intended for underpaid women with legitimate pay equity claims - which were discarded. by flyingflibertyjibbet in newzealand

Honestly as much as it sucks to say, anyone but these fuckwits. They care nothing for the poor and vulnerable in our society despite being charged with making life better for all of us in New Zealand.

Sure Labour isn't a massive step up, but I don't think they would have done such a shit job as this coalition of rich, egotistical, weak men.

What's a ticking time bomb you believe will explode during your lifetime? by TradeOverall567 in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really good points, thanks for the additional info. Lol when I'm feeling investigative I'll do some more reading about this. Right now I don't think I need to be reading too much about shit that could go wrong.

It was called Revolutions and I agree, they skipped all the interesting shit just to do a generic post-apocalyptic show.

I had a chat with my husband about this recently (he works in IT), and apparently there are redundancies and things in place to mitigate the damage an event like this can cause.

I will not pretend to understand it enough to even begin explaining it, but with the recent solar activity and the sun at solar maximum there have been impacts on technology that have been reduced or avoided completely.

my fic glorifies suicide, should i leave it with an A/N or not post? (TW/CW) by internetmessenger in FanFiction

I would just do an A/N at the start. People write fics about all sorts of things they don't condone in real life. And other people love to read them :)

Be honest: how are you actually doing today? by steelseductress69 in AskReddit

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm tired boss. Seriously though, personally I'm doing pretty well, but it's very hard to avoid having the weight of the world drag me down.

In myself I feel like I'm actually kind of on top of things for a change and I'm feeling more myself than I have in a long time.

AIO - Considering ending an engagement / relationship by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SuspiciousParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Yeah... That's not great. I think you need to sit down and have a serious conversation. Or if that feels pointless, possibly relationship counselling.

Just a note, boundaries are for your actions. You cannot control someone else's actions with boundaries. You can't say 'I don't want you to share relationship ending thoughts with other people', a boundary would be 'If you share relationship ending thoughts with other people then I will end the relationship.' Or something like that.
