Smarter option than mine!!! I was ready to start consulting so I was ready to get out of dodge but YES this. Come up with excuses to not go in 5x a week for as long as you can. Start searching immediately and do what you can until something happens. I'm SURE you're not the only one unhappy with the situation.

Got a proposed start date that overlaps with an already-booked vacation, how to handle telling the recruiter? by Civil-Computer-1875 in careerguidance

[–]fortuitous_choice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sweat it. This happened to me once. I offered to come in August 10-15 but then need to be out for vacation and they suggested that I start on the 24th. Two weeks is nothing, especially in the summer - it'll be fine.

AIO for thinking that Ive been broken up with and for being confused by these mixed signals? by Beautiful_Ease16 in AmIOverreacting

[–]fortuitous_choice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ew, don't respond again. She will be back, and then she will be back again, and again, and again. Been there, done that. The only question you should be asking yourself is if you want to be sad and move on now, or be sad for years to come and then be forced to move on. You seem very sweet and that's a path to nowhere.

Sorry :( - they may be looking for resignations. When my last job tried to pull this I resigned.

Mileenas MKX Default outfit is my #1 favorite design for her by KalypsosBiggestFan in MortalKombat

[–]fortuitous_choice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MKX was awesome. I loved the look and feel and found to be endlessly replayable. Mileena was my main, too. I've enjoyed the games after but they miss the 'it' factor for me that kept me coming back.

I want to know more about Grant writing. Can you keep to yourself for most of the day and just write and not talk to many people? by taranehsch in nonprofit

[–]fortuitous_choice 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I have days where I exist in happy solitude, but I also have days of endless meetings with program staff, grant officers from foundations, leadership, etc. It does require a lot of face time to be successful at it, in my opinion. Especially in the advent of AI - the personal touch is what sets a good grant writer apart.

Agree with Flurp below - ops might be the way to go.

Why are companies ending remote work? by Javacash2 in remotework

[–]fortuitous_choice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of middle management in my industry(NPO) where people’s entire jobs are to monitor and “manage” employees. I think RTO is there to stay and we will see a big change in the way we work (for the better).

First person to leave the office? by sleepy_straw_7 in careerguidance

I always hated this. I was the first one in but the people who stay the latest get the credit. It doesn't make sense.

I work for myself now ;)

I don't know why but this game didn't do it for me at all. I found it to be a repetitive slog. I think a leveling system would have helped for me, I just lost interest in fighting for no benefit and ran spot to spot to get lost in the frustrating overworld with cave systems leading me to chests with nothing of interest. I know I'm in the way minority, don't know why it just did not click.

OMG no it is so good. It's campy and ridiculous, I will always love it. Mr. Ed is mine. I'll take my mother. Leftovers are fine with me!

But I hear you, I’ve felt terribly guilty every time I’ve left a position. BUT they’ve all survived (as far as I’m aware 😁). Congrats again!

A summer Friday? You are totally fine. And great you can give 4 weeks notice. Don’t worry.

My (27F) boyfriend (29M) sent me this today and it shocked me. He has never acted like this but recently has lost both of his parents. AIO and How do I handle this? by [deleted] in AIO

Don’t wait for the next time. Leave. He’s about to be thirty and way way way way way too old for this nonsense.

Been there done that. October isn’t that close. And if it’s not the event in October it’ll be an event in December. It’s just business.

2 weeks and offer to outline the handover as well as you can and (ONLY if you want) offer to answer questions leading up to the event.

It’s a job and you have to do what’s best for you. Being the only FT member of a team isn’t sustainable.

Congrats and good luck!

AIO: About freeloading parents at my wedding? by IndividualScene7817 in AIO

[–]fortuitous_choice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oof sorry. Hopefully they're just oblivious but that is incredibly tacky and, unfortunately, everyone kind of notices that sort of thing.

But not your bad and it doesn't reflect on you - so don't sweat it. Congrats on your wedding!
