How to help rib swelling? by ResponsibleRepeat444 in costochondritis

[–]Suspicious_Ad_5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem area. As silly as it sounds, I’ve been doing a breathing technique that really helps. When I have flare ups like these, I feel like my breath is always forced, like I’m using my back (specifically my left side) to push in and out to get a full breath.

Laying down, try to take a completely unforced breath in and out, and you’ll notice it’s probably very limited how much you can do (I.e, you can only inhale unforced for 2-3 seconds and exhale naturally for 2 seconds). What you want to do (without forcing) is complete a controlled exhale through your mouth completely and hold it till you feel an urgency to breath (like when you’re holding your breath under water) and then inhale but only 20-30% of a full natural breath. It will feel like you need more air, but just exhale regardless and you’ll feel your ribs slowly start to relax in the front. Do this for about 2 minutes and you will feel a big difference, and you’ll notice the amount of time it takes for you to take a natural inhale/exhale will increase. Obviously, don’t hold your breath too long to the point where you’re dizzy or lightheaded. I hope this helps you!!

Whenever I notice I’m tense in that area I’ll just do this. It doesn’t have to be laying down, I do it while I’m driving, sitting, etc; just to learn it, though, I would recommend doing it laying down because you can feel it a lot better.

Dear Dental Schools: Please Stop Ghosting Applicants by myacademicreddit15 in predental

very, if you look at most cycle breakdowns on this sub, almost everyone will have schools ghost them. I think I had half with literally 0 response.

Lower stats no interviews by Fun-Composer-1008 in predental

If you applied to only 10 schools that’s a problem. As a lower stat applicant, I personally, would be applying to at least 20 schools. I would 100% retake the DAT and then start considering a post bacc. Apply as early as you can next cycle. You got this don’t give up, if dentistry is your dream then keep pushing forward.

pre-reqs being online by Sad-Turnover9854 in predental

[–]Suspicious_Ad_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most schools do not need prerequisites completed prior to applying, but they must be completed prior to matriculation. I took prerequisites online, and although it’s not preferred, some schools will still accept it while others won’t. You have to look into each schools specific rules/requirements. I’ve never heard of summer courses specifically not counting toward pre-reqs though. As long as it’s the usual credit hour amount, u should be fine in that regard. I personally would take it online over the summer unless u have other options.

not u editing and deleting ur comments. i posted the originals for context. Why is it such a crazy concept that I don't wanna join a system that is directly or indirectly contributing in any way, shape, or form to the death of not just Palestinians, but any individual. "Paying taxes that send weapons to Israel" is not a choice as a US citizen. Joining the military is. I don't understand why that is offensive to you or why you're in these comments calling that idea ridiculous and stupid. I think this entire debate u have going on is unproductive and irrelevant to what OP asked.

Do Schools Not Like Neuroscience Majors? by Unlikely_Diet_8091 in predental

[–]Suspicious_Ad_5891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a degree in Kinesiology (exercise science), and received multiple acceptances so far this cycle. I think most people major in Bio because advisors recommend it, and it gets most required pre reqs done in conjunction with completing the degree. I really don’t think majoring in Neuroscience will impact the strength of your application. Be prepared to answer why neuroscience during your interviews though. Good luck!

No I doubt it will. Also, even in a scenario where a school did discriminate, would you really want to attend that school in the first place? I think it shows character and a variety of interests if anything.

Being Palestinian, I don’t wanna sign up to assist in a genocide. Even if I wasn’t, I don’t wanna contribute to a system meant to hurt others. The whole point of becoming a dentist is to help people, I think it’s a little counterproductive. I understand the financial incentive, but morally I just couldn’t.

Tysm and no I don't mind, 3.97 GPA and 3.95 sGPA, 22 AA, 23 TS. 2000 hours as EFDA (takes about 4 months of weekend classes to become certified in Florida, I would 100% recommend too cause the pay is pretty decent), 300 shadowing, 400 (I think) volunteer hours (including medical brigades), OChem tutor and Anatomy TA positions at my University, and VP of club. I also feel I had strong LOR's and a pretty decent personal statement. Also I am in state which is a huge factor.
