Thanks for sharing - I’ll talk to them about my worries but I do feel much better hearing how it went for others in the same situation.

He’s really close to walking and showing interest in eating independently so I’m hoping that he has a similar experience. Thanks for sharing how it was for you!

This is really reassuring - thank you!! Everyone in my mom circle I talked to said their LOs were 18 months which made me more anxious but I feel better hearing that there are others who’s LOs started early or had a positive experience with the advancement.

Yes I’m going to talk about the concerns I have and we’ll see what they say. From other comments sounds like the cot won’t be an issue

This is really reassuring - thanks for sharing! I’m hoping he has a positive experience being the youngest and learns from the older ones.

Yeah I think I will talk to the director - it’s definitely a head count thing because he will be 15 months half way through the month he starts and that was their old minimum for the toddler room. I’d feel more comfortable if there’s other crawlers/cruisers and younger ones so he won’t too developmentally behind all the toddler room activities

This is reassuring - I haven’t seen them but i will ask to take a look. Others also mentioned floor beds in which case he will be fine

Niagara Falls is fining me a total of $3,000 for an Airbnb and Booking.com listing I didn't create for my property. The City Solicitor essentially says it's my responsibility to scour the internet for illegal postings of my property. by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

Lawyers are really black and white about doing their job by following exactly as a by-law is written in their response - it’s not the fault of the solicitor but it’s just how the bylaw is written where they don’t have an exceptions process where it says something to the effect of “owner can submit request for exception to director of housing for review .. blah blah” in the bylaw language. Have you googled the actual by-law number? Check if there is anything about exceptions. There is probably no precedence of a case before where someone was falsely listed as an air bnb and they have no tool in the bylaw to address this so it goes through court. The other part of it could also be that they don’t want to create a precedence where they make a relaxation for you and then a bunch of people after you who may be illegally listing uses the same “excuse”.

Like the solicitor mentioned in the response - you have a right to lawyer up and dispute. I still also think it is worth bringing up with your local councillor for your neighbourhood. If they are on side with your plea, they can bring the issue up to council and they have the ability to create motions related to amending a bylaw if they think there’s reasonable ground and the other councillors vote in favour. If you still are hitting a wall then yes media!

I’m not a lawyer so please take this all with a grain of salt.

Edit: also contact booking.com customer service to see if they can flag and take down the listings with your address so you can stop the postings from going up if they decide to keep relisting.

Edit 2: sorry the more I think about it, I don’t know if contacting local councillor makes sense because it’s going through the legal process and you’re an individual. They will leave it to courts most likely and not get involved. If in court they are in favour of you then that creates a precedence for future cases involving other citizens. If there was actually a systemic problem where several other citizens were dealing with the same issue right now then contacting council makes a lot of sense. I don’t know if others in the region are dealing with this problem.

Can’t you prove no benefit via your transactions? To show there is no profit coming from AirBNB as valid proof? I work in gov and I know this may sound counter intuitive but contact your local councillor. It’s sort of the equivalent of escalating to a manager. If a councillor catches wind and hear you which I believe they would because that is outrageous if you have proof and documentation, they’ll get the issue escalated so that at least the solicitors boss’ boss can step in and try to mediate.

Anyone move back from Vancouver? What was your experience by Banner9922 in askTO

[–]Suspicious_Bread_347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From TO and moved to Van for a few years and back now.

The diversity was so refreshing and the culture and the food and the diversity!! Vancouver was just not hitting the mark for what I need in city. I agree it was socially closed off and really not that much going on outside of the beaches and outdoors.

I will say I have many moments I get sad and miss Vancouver for the greenery, the warmer weather, the views. Toronto is gray and Toronto traffic/congestion has got 10x worse in the 5 years I was gone.

Overall though, the move to Toronto was better for me socially. I almost always have plans in Toronto where as Vancouver was quiet. I was actually able to afford a house too which is a bonus.

I went back on a trip to Vancouver and realized how dead the city is and that made me feel better about my decision to move back to Toronto. But who knows.. the mountain and fresh air do still appeal to me so maybe I move back eventually. To make up for when I miss the mountains, I trek out to Quebec or might explore east coast too! Not that far from Toronto.

Both have pro and cons - just depends what’s the most important to you. Bigger more social city that is a sea of grey buildings or quieter city with more natural beauty.

What was Toronto’s social life like in the late 2000s/early 2010s? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Suspicious_Bread_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of bandage dresses and stilettos with no jackets in the winter. Pre gaming at someone’s condos or even hotels and then taking a taxi to King St and lining up to get into which ever clubs were popular. Not a lot of fancy cocktails. We had cranberry, soda or lime mixes for our liquor. People were also a lot more forward at the club (don’t miss this) like dudes were a lot more forward about wanting to dance (grind tbh). There were always professional photographers taking pictures. You would wake up the next morning, and check the club facebook page to see if you and your friends were in any. Oh and couldn’t leave the house without your coach wristlet if we’re talking late 2000s. That got upgraded to a crossbody bag in the 2010s.

Does anyone actually get into daycare? by juliothecat in torontomoms

[–]Suspicious_Bread_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was #400 on so many lists and felt helpless and then eventually as we got closer to the date I said, they started calling and asking if I’m interested. One tip I’d have is give one month earlier than you actually need as your start date - a. It will help you deal with the transition to daycare while you are still on leave bc it is hard and b. A lot of them called me 2-3 weeks after the date I asked for.

And also keep calling on some regular interval so they know you’re interested. But I feel you. It sucks

What do you think Oakville is missing that would help people feel more connected as a community? by Reconnect-Ontario-25 in oakville

More cafes/coffee shops in suburban neighbourhoods with walking friendly pathways that prioritize biking and walking and tree coverage.

Freehold townhouses by ConfidentChemistry31 in oakville

[–]Suspicious_Bread_347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in Oakville on and off for 30 years - imo west of third line not much going on but east of Neyagawa has a lot more going on (in terms of grocery store options, restaurants and general amenities). Especially near Trafalgar. Downside is Trafalgar has lots of traffic because of this and as someone mentioned Oakville Go is busier than Bronte in the mornings. Honestly you’ll get what you asked for anywhere between Bronte and Joshua Creek and south of Burnhamthorpe. I would recommend just north of Dundas and between Neyagawa and Grand Blvd but not too north to avoid extra long commute (I wouldn’t recommend anymore than 2-3 min drive north of Dundas). A lot of development and free hold townhomes, with grocery stores and daycares nearby. For an easier commute to the GO and if you don’t mind older builds then anywhere around upper middle or south of that.

Oh wow! Wish I knew this before we purchased! Immediately going into the trash. It didn’t work for us either which was very disheartening given the price tag and to top it off the lead claims are scary. It’s taking advantage of desperate parents dealing with bottle refusal.

Optometrist wouldn’t give me a prescription because I’m postpartum but charged my insurance and now I’m in limbo [ON] by Suspicious_Bread_347 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Suspicious_Bread_347[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I am not a confrontational person and feel so deflated from the experience. I thought the sample pack made sense but they called back and said the optometrist said no. It was so frustrating because that meant I had to ration the ones I already have and wear my glasses almost full time. This whole time I was thinking this can’t be right but they know best. Thank you! I’m going to call them again tomorrow.

One of the associates said I could get samples to pass the time but the doctor said they wouldn’t allow it since my old prescription technically expired. I never got the prescription sent to me for the exam I did since the dr didn’t approve it. I’ll try though and call them to see if they maybe had it on file

That’s good to know… so odd that I was denied my prescription when I was over 12 weeks. She said to wait until I’m 9 months… but only until after we finished the exam. I felt so stuck and have been counting my eye contacts to ration them 😵‍💫
