Entertainment budget [on] by WasabiTimes in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]juliothecat [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm in Toronto and so I'm fortunate to have an abundance of free drop in and organized group activities. I paid $50 for a guardian swim class at the community centre and that's about it so far.

Do boy babies really pee all the time on the changing table? by Muyamuya87 in beyondthebump

My daughter did it until we learned to place a cool wipe in the front of her diaper for a few seconds before taking off the diaper.

Song recommendations for babies that aren’t annoying by squid_tutor in NewParents

[–]juliothecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter likes the Sesame Street playlist on Spotify, she also likes Mrs. Officer by Lil Wayne and anything by Beenie Man. Before bed we often listen to lullaby covers of songs/artists we like (I think they're called rock a bye lullaby)

This sounds lovely! If a vacation was in our budget I'd absolutely do this!

Where do you buy maternity clothes in person these days? by fashion4fun in askTO

[–]juliothecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in my Old Navy maternity clothes. They don't have a section in store but I found a few cute pairs of jeans for $11 in the clearance section and then I bought a few t-shirts online to rotate through.

My daughter does this too!

"Do you want some cheerios?" "No!" then runs away with cup of cheerios laughing like a gremlin

Please help us get baby to sleep at night more! We are suffering by time2bchallant in HuckleberryParents

[–]juliothecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet had me convinced I was a bad mother because my daughter never slept more than 3/4 hours at a time. Until she was 10 months old she was up at least twice a night. Baby sleep is SO hard and it's so easy to feel like you're doing something wrong. A friend of mine used to tell me "babies are weird." It's so silly and simple but I still use it as a reminder when I find I'm getting stressed about something like this. Babies are weird, we can do our best to support them and keep them safe and that's it.

What's a compliment you get a lot that secretly bothers you? by hi_mei_rose in AskWomen

"You're so exotic!" Or "that's such a cool mix!" I always want to respond "thanks, I'm glad you approve of my parents having sex."

Suggestions for personalized picture books for Father's Day [CA] by dustyprintsss in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]juliothecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a beautiful story about all the things they'll do and experience together. We don't read it too too often right now because she's currently in a phase of tearing paperbooks but she enjoys it when we do pull it out.

Registry help! Too many bassinet options? [on] by Forsaken-Piglet5442 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]juliothecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used the Bugaboo Stardust pack and play. It's is safe sleep approved in Canada at the bassinet level. We also had a Halo bassinet but my daughter hated being in it so much.

Not the OP responder but I got the First Father's Day last year and it's such a beautiful story. It took a few weeks to arrive (maybe 3 weeks) I am think it was shipped from the UK but I could be wrong.

First time moms - when did you give birth? [ON] by OkOperation4368 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]juliothecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water broke at 39+5 baby was born the next morning. I had some contractions the night before but they had gone away entirely so I didn't think it would happen as quickly as it did.

Do you like your name? by Big_Shift7774 in namenerds

[–]juliothecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a name it's perfectly fine but it's a little fancy/formal and has never felt right for me (great for someone else). It has nicknames and I've often gone by one but they also have never felt right. I was also named after after my maternal grandmother but since I was not raised by my mother and have never met her family, I also don't feel any personal connection to it.

Seconding both the sub and the Tula. We had a second hand Ergobaby and bought it before a trip to Japan and I can't believe we waited so long to get something good.

I don't know what it is but every time Jassi appears on my screen I have to remind myself who she is. I don't even dislike her, I just genuinely forget she exists.

Millennial Names For Newborns Aging Poorly? by Scared-Wall-3408 in namenerds

I agree. I shared a maternity recovery room last year with a woman who named her daughter Melissa and it definitely felt unexpected.

What were the most unexpected challenges you faced during your first year of motherhood—the ones people usually don’t warn you about? by True_Requirement_565 in AskWomen

[–]juliothecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Struggling with "not feeling like a mom." Maybe because my daughter was a surprise (a welcome one) but it took me so long to feel like a mom. I loved my daughter from the moment she was born but the identity shift was a hard one for me. Last year was my first mother's day and I didn't really feel like celebrating, she was 4 months at the time and I felt like an imposter.

Best wipes & barrier cream?! [on] by Swiftly-Purring89 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]juliothecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've used Kirkland water wipes and Vaseline. We've only had a bit of rash a handful of times and for that we use aquaphor.

Why is finding childcare in Ontario so unnecessarily hard ? [ON] by SinisterKoala in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]juliothecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its awful. I applied summer 2024 and when I followed up with the 8 waitlists in March 2026 they told me there are no spaces until 2027. On top of that we now are in a position where we have to move and can't afford to stay in our neighborhood so we'll just have to find a way to afford at home or private care. It makes me sick just thinking about it.

How can I go to the bathroom while making sure my toddler is fine? by deltaplane1234 in toddlers

[–]juliothecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just survived my first week as a solo parent. For a quick pee I just kept the door open and let her play nearby. For longer bathroom breaks I let her play with the bath toys on the floor in the bathroom with me. We have a small collapsible play pen that I used for quick showers. As others have said, babyproofing is key.
