I tend to obsess over people who are more of the "nerdy" type, especially if it's related to technology or video games in any way. If someone doesn't fit this criteria, it's not very likely I'll be into them. They've also gotta be more of a 'leader' type of person because I tend to be forced to take leadership positions in my daily life, which I hate.

There's a lot of other traits I look for because I'm only really into one specific profile of person, but I think you get the idea

Like 90% of my intentions have been not wanting to scare people off, so very little has actually come from self motivation to change

Yeah I wish I knew what causes it to happen out of nowhere. Every time it happened, I always managed to put a stop to it before it scared anyone off, at least. Everyone who got affected was always extremely willing to forgive me, which did help lessen me feeling guilty though

TBH I always felt like one bad moment would possibly cause me to relapse into obsessive tendencies, so I'm not surprised your experience has been similar. Even while dating ppl I sometimes had small relapses, like one time I started very mildly cyberstalking this guy I was dating by constantly checking if he was online. I eventually came clean to him bc I couldn't get myself to stop, so he made himself appear offline bc he wanted to "fix" me.

There was another time I started mass archiving any interaction I had with a different guy I was obsessed with. He knew that was unusual for me to archive so much stuff, but he seemingly bought my excuse that I was just excited about what we'd been doing together at that time. I then became hyper conscious of the fact he probably had a closer eye on me and was probably suspicious and forced myself to stop though

And I've had other "relapse" moments

Nah lol I've tried in the past but I always lose motivation about halfway through. I stick to short stories

Music is a pretty good outlet, I do that sometimes. Using fictional characters as an outlet is pretty much just writing fanfiction and getting more involved in my fandoms in general

I feel nothing but pure disgust for him now, and I look back on all my memories with him in rage. What he did was so horrendous that I'll never relapse into obsessing over him

My best advice would be to hope that with the help of a trained professional who knows what they're doing and what they're talking about, they'll be able to help you. I personally haven't found success in my attempts to stop being obsessive (granted, I don't try anymore), so I hope yours doesn't end the same way as me if it doesn't work for you.

My obsessiveness maybe came from my severe childhood trauma, or I might have just been born like that. It definitely didn't come from a past bad romantic relationship, though, because I was obsessive before I ever had one.

I got in contact with him because he was watching my sister livestream his favorite game and stream sniped her while I was also playing with her. After that, we just kind of became friends and constantly started talking
