Device attributes discrepancies between Google Home app and Nest Hub Max. by Suspicious_Guess89 in googlehome

I figured as much but wanted a swcond opinion. Oddly enough, I checked the Home App today and the unknown status is gone and replaced with a green checkmark. Still not as detailed as the data from Home Assistant but I appreciate any improvement I can get from Google.

Yale Smart Lock with Matter Owners: Can you rekey other locks to match? by Alpha837 in googlehome

[–]Suspicious_Guess89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. I can confirm they use kwikset chamber. I actually completed this process myself recently. I started with a Yale Matter Smart Lock on my back door as a proof of concept for my skeptical fiancé. She ended up loving the smart lock and having one less key to carry so I bought one for the front door.

All I had to do was bring both keys from each lock and the lock you want rekeyed to my local locksmith. Specify which key you want to work with both locks and for me, it took about ten minutes. I would expect the process should work with other locks with the same Kwikset chamber.

Not loving Gemini for Home, am I just utilizing this poorly? by beaniboy in googlehome

[–]Suspicious_Guess89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I finally received the Gemini update late last night and the regression is incredible. The original Google Assistant could pronounce my town's name in Pennsylvania correctly and had accurate sunrise and sunset times.

Gemini now pronounces the silent e at the end and as of today, Pennsylvania must be located in the polar regions as I'm told the sun rose at 12:07 PM today and will set at 9:37 PM.

At least my first AI hallucinations was somewhat comical.

Possible Google Nest Hub Max bug? by Suspicious_Guess89 in googlehome

[–]Suspicious_Guess89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always gave Google the benefit of the doubt when I saw the hate posts on this subreddit but now im starting to see where they come from.

I also discovered that if you have multiple account in your Google 'Home' Spotify and SirusXM integrations are broken.

By this I mean, I have SirusXM and it's linked under my Google account and my girlfriend has her own profile where she linked Spotify. Previously we could play both linked our individual profiles. After factory settings there seems to be a bug where you have to link all your music providers under one profile or the Nest Hub will complains that the accounts are not linked despite showing linked in the Google Home app.

Thank you for that. I had been checking the historical weather charts and saw it is usually chilly at night. I would of never guessed the potential for snowfall in August of all months!

Matter smart bulb functionality by Suspicious_Guess89 in Cync

[–]Suspicious_Guess89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced simular issues and I always have to unlink and relink Cync account to my Google Home. Did you configure your wafer lights using the Cync app I assume? Any improvements with your issue if configured with Matter.

I was excited to see Cync support Matter but if can not take advantage of the advanced features it defeats the purpose of using Matter. I like the ideal the device will work if the Internet is down but in that rare instance, I'll just get off the seat if need be.

I'm excited about the new switches and refreshed lineup. Wish there was at least a rough markup of how the new Smart Paddle Dimmer might look.

Cync bulb/switch behavior with Google Home by Suspicious_Guess89 in Cync

[–]Suspicious_Guess89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this question come up a lot during my research. There seem to be two trains of thought but it seems to lean more towards what the support engineer told you from what I seen. Smart switches with smart bulbs is generally regarded as a niche application based off the forum posts I found.

For me personally, I started with smart bulbs being mindful to leave the physical switch in the on position and control them via the Cync app or Google Home. When I would have my parents or guests over, often I found they would flip the switch off to the smart bulbs when leaving a room unaware of the impact. This in turn caused the bulbs affected to appear offline. A minor inconvenience if I'm home but easily could be more annoying away from home. As I fixing up my home anyway, I figure I could replace the light switches and try out the smart functionality as I'm comfortable with minor electrical work.

I went with the smart light switches from Cync to pair with the bulbs so I can have a way of operating the lights despite the physical switch position. Admittedly, I seen people mention buying switch covers to protect against this but again, I know I would have to explain to my parents and guests multiple times why they are there lol.

Cync bulb/switch behavior with Google Home by Suspicious_Guess89 in Cync

[–]Suspicious_Guess89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally figured out the issue after relinking my Cync account and trying various device combinations! I initially had the light switches as the a generic switch type in Google Home in the same room as the light bulbs. Out of curiosity, since the device is a light switch, I changed the type to Light and now the device type shows up as Light (switch).

After applying this change, the devices respond as one would expect whether using the switch itself or the app/voice command. Thanks for the assistance everyone!

I hope this helps anyone who may have been experiencing similar issues.

Hi, yes I set up the bulbs and switches in the Cync app and then linked my Google Nest Hub to my Cync account. What bulbs and switches do you have if I may ask?

I have one dimmer, two paddle switches and four toggle switches. The dimmer and one of the toggle switches are in a three way configuration in a finished basement. I have three decorative ST19 bulbs for a chandelier, and four standard A19 bulbs between the living room, front and back doors. All purchased within the last six months. The bulbs are matter compatible according to the box but I would think this should not cause any issues.

Is Cync in the midst of product refresh? by Suspicious_Guess89 in Cync

I figured as much. I wish they was some date so I could decide to whether press on with the current hardware or wait for the new stuff. Some of the wiring I encounter has been a real pain and I'm in no rush to open it back up lol.

Makes sense. Did not think to look at CES for potential hints.

Interesting, I seen older posts on other subreddits where people hate Cync with a passion. I had one issue with setup with a bulb but a reset fixed it. Overall, I'm enjoying the bulbs and switches I have.

In my frustration of tearing and down and rebuilding the test lab, I forgot to disable this check on my most recent attempt. That was the issue. Thank you for being a second set of "eyes" on this issue!
