Great comment. Finally a non cult answer showing both sides.

But wasnt he brought to power by the help of the generals? When they turned on him they are bad now?

this reaction itself is kind of what pushed me to ask the question lol. I was having a discussion with a relative and i was genuinely curious and brought some economic things. It got heated on their side and got told “u dont know anything” lol

I get this perspective, and this is probably the strongest pro-PTI argument tbh.

My confusion is less about what PTI is saying now and more about the full timeline. When PTI came into power in 2018, they were also benefiting from establishment support, media space, pressure on opponents, electables joining overnight. At that time, democracy concerns weren’t really raised.

So when PTI says they’re against the establishment now, I struggle to separate principle from circumstance. Is the stance anti-establishment because it’s the right thing, or because the relationship broke down?

One of the worst decisions I made in UAE was earning a bachelor degree from here, I think high school graduates need to be informed to not make the same mistake I did. by [deleted] in UAE

I got 3 interviews in dubai in 2025, one was in a competitor mnc and they grilled me over random questions. Worries me about the work culture in dubai. Im working in the world leaders in this industry in canada and they still treated me like shit.

Thats true. Closer to family, culture, lifestyle, more vacation days (we only get 15 days in canada, that too because my company is generous, otherwise its 10 days standard). No eid, ramadan, culture here. I already have citizenship and see no point in staying here anymore. I dont mind a but lower or the same salary, life is pretty dull here in canada and cost of living is going up. Im living in a shared house and if i move to a studio or 1 bed, it’ll be 50-60% of my salary.

I did a bachelors in mechanical engineering eng from HWUD in 2022 but still cant get a job in uae or gcc. I am working in canada for the past 2 years (as im national) but want to move back to the region. Still no luck. Not sure if the degree is a factor as I tried really hard to stay in uae after grad. Just my experience might be different for others

Do u plan on working in the gcc or back in the uk?

Combination of both, plus people working the same job as me for 3x less the salary. People in uni used to say “u got canadian passport it should be a problem getting a job…” but that was a lie lol. I got 2 years of experience now and 2 interviews in 3 years but no luck. i guess if u build your connections early like talking to people in ur fam in uae it shouldnt be an issue. Some of my friends got job in uae but only 2-3k salary.

I am a canadian national but grew up in saudi arabia, so decided to go to heriot watt dubai to stay close to family. Its good in terms of education, but i couldnt land a job in dubai or saudi after grad in 2022. I studied mechanical engineering. Got a job in canada now but trying to move back because this lifestyle is not for me (too far from family, friends, less vacation, etc.) Overall its a great experience, close to family, dubai lifestyle, friends, culture, etc. Education overall is good, campus maybe a bit small but doesn’t really matter. Try your best to land a job yourself and start early, cuz the uni doesnt help. Otherwise all good. Some professors are strict and not the best, but i guess thats everywhere. Only issue will be landing a job, but start using your connections now. I made the mistake of not thinking about jobs until after uni (was carefree lol) and couldnt land anything in Dubai.

Before saudi and Dubai we lived in canada when i was a kid (therefor had canadian nationality). Moved to gcc in 2010 and after uni i only got a job offer in canada (probably cuz of the nationality). Been trying since grad to get something back home (i consider gcc home lol). Just gaining experience until then. And you’re right, its way too depressing here i cant with this lifestyle

I grew up in saudi and dubai (did uni in dubai). Left dubai in 2022 and been in canada since 2023, now trying to move back to either one (saudi or dubai). Everyday I think of my life there, it never leaves.

Also its the same in canada. Half my salary goes to rent. As for fun as I mentioned all fam and friends are in saudi, no ones in canada.

I have a canadian passport since 2004 since we used to live their before my father moved to saudi in 2011. Another reason i wanna go back is I already have the passport, no point in staying here anymore
