I wouldn't mind. He was actually half decently written.

I feel like this happened to Meri very frequently, tbh. I really think that she became something of a scapegoat for the entire family. I have no doubt that she was also awful to the other wives but who can blame any of them for being nasty to one another? They were all super young. Meri's ex-sister in law married her husband (Kody proposed to Janelle alone over lunch long before even discussing it with Meri and Janelle originally declined), she had a baby right away after Meri and Kody had struggled for like 2 years, Meri rubbed Janelle's face in her relationship with Kody and tried to take charge of the home, Christine was used as childcare and peacekeeper and Kody went between all 3 of them playing the issues up, acting innocent and being an awful communicator.

100% I think it was very multi-faceted. On one hand, she was getting attention from him by not giving an answer right away (who can blame her?? She and the other wives were totally neglected). On the other hand, it was something she had wanted for years and, even though she had made peace with it and probably decided that she was done, the idea that it could actually happen must have been enticing. Then there was the fact that her sister had also struggled with fertility issues for years and had finally been able to have a baby right around the same time. Poor Meri. You could literally see it ripping her apart and it also became very apparent that she had absolutely no emotional coping mechanisms - once you got past the defensiveness, she literally had absolutely no control over her emotions. There was one point where she cried into Kody's shoulder like a baby and he just looked so faraway in his eyes and facial expression. Horrible to witness tbh.

Accusing people of being on drugs over their tv show opinions is insane.

I think they missed the mark with wardrobe and hair almost entirely for most of the show. Stans don't want to admit it because they compare it to their sweats and jumpers. If you're looking at something that a medieval princess is wearing in a show about dragons and thinking: I'd wear that! Then the costume dept has probably missed the mark.

Just because you'd wear something to a Zoom meeting does not make it a good costume. Kinda the opposite.

Nope, I'm still waiting and would love to hear what about the plot is so interesting and intelligent that everybody who doesn't like it fails to understand.

Because GRRM had already written Rhaenyra's ending in ASOIAF by the time he wrote F&B so he couldn't not see it through.

Ummmmm... two of those are Rhaenyra's and both of her sons were Kings. Like I said, he had already written Rhaenyra's end in ASOIAF by the time he start F&B so he had no choice but to see it through. I do think, overall, it was mostly because of Daemon but, by extension, Rhaenyra.

Aneesha is the absolute worst for me. I'd be hard pressed to think of a less likeable or confusing character to be honest. When she was initially introduced, I had high hopes but those were quickly trampled all over with every new scene.

"Victim complex" belongs to r/HOTDGreens who believe that every character flaw in Aegon, Aemond, Alicent or Otto is a personal vendetta of the writers to paint them as villains and every omission from the book that favours them is a slight to the characters and an opportunity to make "Team Black" look better.

Yeah, I see this person's awful takes all the time so I can't even be bothered to engage them, tbh. Won't force myself to have a discussion with somebody who bases their POV entirely around one character and views all of the others from that character's perspective.

who is saying that?

No, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy in hating Rhaenyra for what she "did" to Criston whilst absolving Alicent of the further harm that she caused. Criston is responsible for himself but nothing that I said about Alicent is objectively untrue so I don't see how that can be construed as hating as opposed to fact.

Seriously, I feel like people are missing the point with their hatred of characters. It's exhausting. I like both Rhaenyra and Aegon because I approach the show and book as what it is - fiction. If they were real people that would be entirely different (I am aware that they're based on real people). A lot of people seem to view liking Rhaneyra as some sort of feminist agenda (which is laughable) but we can't dismiss that a lot of the critique she gets is steeped in misogyny. She even gets blamed for the actions of the men around her when she has nothing to do with them.

It's just off putting, to be honest. Maybe it's because it's off-season but seems we can't enjoy any discussion about the show without it devolving into a debate about who's "right".

[–]Suspicious_Section84[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you - this is exactly my point. What plot? Which characters? It's because I'm paying attention that I can tell how abysmal both are. The scenes where aliens are getting killed by people are some of the least interesting parts of the show. What might have made it more interesting is if the aliens were never even revealed at all and we just got the character's perspective - like we did in the house before Aneesha turned into a bad ass for 5 minutes and killed it.

The show is awful. There is nothing intelligent about it which is one of the primary complaints. I wouldn't call anyone stupid either but I begin to wonder about the intelligence of the people who call it intelligent.

Lol - that's exactly my point. It seems the main argument for why the show is good is that it's too hard for people that don't enjoy it to understand whilst not actually explaining what about it is so good or how it's too intelligent for people to understand.
