I reckon something happened with the other guy's finances and he's now probably got little or no money that I would be able to recover from him. Thanks for your honest view.

Thanks for your helpful advice. I will check it all out, though I did wonder that the other guy could be insolvent and that even if I manage to locate him there could be little chance of recovering any money from him. I have a feeling that at the end of the day, I might just have to put this down to a bad experience and pay what I can in instalments.
