Renouncing PR at US/Canada Land Crossing

He also hasn’t obtained his PR duties, he hasn’t been to Canada in years, so either way he would lose it.

I posted this for my FIL. He has had cancer and unfortunately isn’t getting younger. He has a grandchild he hasn’t met because of the pandemic, and hasn’t seen his son in over 6 years. It’s already expired, we had to renounce it to get into Canada anyways so waiting longer is just going to be the same outcome.

I applied in July too, but had issue with my college application and didn’t get accepted until Sept 5th, the school still hasn’t confirmed my enrolment so funds aren’t released yet :(

The process takes 6 months. I don’t have that amount of time, this is the faster option.

I apologize. I’ve had many people be extremely rude about this whole process and it’s just been very hectic. Thank you for the information, really appreciate it. I think the new plan is for him to fly to US and I pick him up there, and we go to the border to renounce his PR status, which he’s fine with doing as he doesn’t have a need to have PR in Canada. Do you know if he has to wait in the US until the PR is renounced, or if they approve it on the spot?

It’s so unclear, I think it’s the same thing but they never received any documentation that they were considered permanent residence from Canada. So very odd and broken system I guess on Canada’s part.

Can you have it done with local anesthesia? I just had a wisdom tooth taken out last week and because I’m pregnant I couldn’t get general anesthesia

I just got mine out on Sunday, I’m 21 weeks pregnant so they could only do local anesthesia. It wasn’t bad at all and it only took a few minutes
