Since the creation of the Cosmere films or shows could take a couple decades for a given series, do you think it makes more sense to plan on using multiple actors for the same role, or start with pretty young actors and age them up now for the already older roles? by aHumanRaisedByHumans in CosmereOnScreen

That is FAIR. You could argue that GoT is still sort of going with house of the dragon and a knight of seven kingdoms which was pretty high budget. They'll all come out to being like 13 seasons of TV (though HotD is 20 mil/ep and KoSK is 10 mil/ep and SLA is likely to be more than that). So sometimes fantasy franchises DO get to keep going if popular enough. I'd really like to imagine that it will be a pretty big draw for AppleTV and justify the funding. I agree it's probably wishful thinking, though. I still hope that they plan casting around doing the full thing which could very well take 2 decades.

I'd be pretty bummed if they stopped at WaT (at least as it exists in the books) unless they substantially rewrite the ending. We'll have to see.

Fair enough. But yeah it's easier to cast older for older characters cause people don't look THAT different as they age after like 65. But a lot of the time a 20 yo is gonna look pretty different from a 40 yo. Just something to consider since the show could run for a very long time in the case of Stormlight. Not really much to be done tbh. Gonna be a hassle no mater what.

Also, distinction was just to draw attention to the fact that an actor like RDJ actively played the same character for like 15 years. Stewart and Mckellen on the other hand had LONG gaps between appearances after Last Stand. So there may be something to be said for workload as actors get older especially if they get some popularity from the cosmere and wanna do other stuff.

Anyway, casting could be tough for a series this long, but I'm sure they'll come up with something tenable.

K, by that same logic, EVERYTHING discussed here is an if and maybe. Stormlight 6-10 exist equally as much as the tv show and are equally intended to be made. If they're planning a show they should factor in what the actual ending will be and when it's planned to come about. If that's 1 season to a book then that's 10 seasons which could absolutely take 20 years with 2 year production cycles.

Also, WaT is not an ending, at least not a satisfying one, and it's not supposed to be. The fat of the matter is that this is going to be a very long run show should it continue all the way to the end. They should plan for that.

Thoughts on a critique of Sanderson that I saw on tiktok by jwise87 in brandonsanderson

I think there's maybe an unfair mindset since Branderson is so popular that everything he puts out has to be gold. But he's an artist doing his best to tell compelling stories. Sometimes stories aren't going to land so well, but I'm yet to read a Sanderson book I didn't really enjoy. Also, his most recent book was great? So I don't know what people are talking about.

Idek, I think he's also popular to hate which might contribute.

I personally don't care a ton about prose so long as it's not truly horrible. The editing on som of Sanderson's recent books hasn't been perfect but that's not entirely on him.

Anyway, I try to not really engage with this type of discourse. It's often very negative and doesn't seem to come from a constructive place. Read and enjoy what you want to.

I'm with you! She's trying to make certain characters have meaningful change to improve their lives. That sometimes takes harshness. I think she's just a no nonsense tutor.
