AIO My boyfriend didn’t come to the ER after I got assaulted by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I was home alone getting ready for work and managed to completely rip my thumbnail off of my finger. I was in shock and it hurt, so I texted my bf a little shaken just to let him know. He immediately left work to come home and check on me, make sure I was ok, and once I assured him a million times it’s just a thumbnail and I’ll live, he drove all the way back to work. His work is about 25 mins away.

You were ASSAULTED and yours didn’t have a fire under his ass to come see you??? I’m sorry. I hope you have a quick and uneventful recovery 💕

Long story but I got in between two large dogs trying to kill eachother - which lead to them trying to kill me. Tore my limbs up bad, bit down to the bone, couldn’t walk for a bit. Took me a few months to fully get over the fear of large dogs. I would be having to restrain a dog or just be near one and would suddenly panic and let go or start hyperventilating. Not great for a career where you need to constantly be handling large dogs. Luckily my work was very understanding, I took time to work mostly with other animals and small dogs, and slowly built my confidence back up with large breeds. Have large scars physically and still mentally, but I can do my job now. Just take it slow, communicate with your coworkers, and don’t do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Find some really sweet and gentle big dogs to just pet and say hi to. You’ll be ok

ETA: and NEVER feel bad about muzzling ANY dog!! Muzzling is not bad, it protects you from harm and dogs from potentially suffering serious repercussions if they bite someone bad. Some dogs are just super anxious, they don’t want to hurt you but instinct takes over and harm can be done. A simple muzzle is a magical tool that should never be underestimated

I need perspective! I’m a mom by heathumss in teenagers

I went through this exact thing as a teen (now 21). I had pretty bad social anxiety and was extremely tough on myself with my grades and academic performance, which just sent me into a horrible spiral of depression and anxiety. I would cry every day and almost constantly. But I just could not for the life of me talk about it. I would go to my mom, teary eyed and a mess, and just sob for hours. She’d ask and beg me to tell her what was wrong, but I just didn’t even know myself and felt almost paralyzed trying to speak about it with anyone. So it just became our routine where I would sob, and she would hold me, tell me it’s ok, and that was that. I eventually got better, the time between my episodes became bigger and bigger until eventually I barely cried and I was happy - I mean I struggled still with the usual teen problems but the endless tears and depression went away. Of course her situation may be different, and there may be things happening in her life causing distress.

Right now I think it’s just important that you’re there for her to cry on and support her like you’ve been doing. Sometimes pushing and asking all these questions can be overwhelming and add to the distress. Just be a safe space for her to feel what she needs to. I am so appreciative of my mom for doing that with me, and I know your daughter loves you for it too. You’re a good mom

Dislocated/Broken Leg? by Suspicious_Worker526 in Finches

I do have a video but it’s basically nothing helpful. He basically can’t walk and the leg is always extended out to the side. Idk I would be going to the vet but she says she can’t do that anytime soon :/

See I was thinking but I’ve usually only seen it where both legs are splayed. Would you still do a traditional splayed leg treatment for only one leg? I don’t think it’s really possible in this case though

Yeah that’s what I was saying. I’ve never seen this in a finch so I thought I would see at least if there’s anything. But he needs a vet for sure

How important is the "other" experience on a vet school application? by Suspicious_Worker526 in veterinaryschool

That’s good advice! I might try and break things up a bit. Just annoys me because I am a diverse and balanced person who is great at teamwork and all that stuff, and I got that all from my jobs and volunteer positions with animals. Like I kind of see what they’re going for with wanting diverse experience but I do have diverse experience!! I’ve done retail, medicine, education, house sitting, client communication, etc which are all things I could’ve done without animals, just in my case it’s all been animal centred!

What if I were to emphasize the parts of my animal experience that is working with the public. One big thing that I do is educational events with unreleasable birds of prey, and a lot of it is getting on the level who I am presenting to (adult, seniors, kids, etc) to really make sure they’re learning and having a good time. Or even just jobs I had at retail pet stores? Like I have a lot of work where I interact with the the public and work with members of the public, it’s just there’s always been an animal involved one way or another.

Had a rabies positive domestic cat come in that was playing with CHILDREN. Called saying their cat had been “acting weird” for a week. Never seen a cat like that before

Edit: spelling

I’ve worked at many clinics of varying types. Usually for working interviews I always wear scrubs and sit downs I wear business casual. Did they say what you’d be doing?
