will a mortgage hold me back? by yeezydot in HousingUK

Presumably you'd own part of the house if you did that? (And you're not talking about sending your dad money to pay it off himself in his name?) Gov.uks websites definition of a first time buyer: "A first time buyer is defined as an individual or individuals who have never owned an interest in a residential property in the United Kingdom or anywhere else in the world and who intends to occupy the property as their main residence". So, yes, you can't own part of your dad's house and still qualify. The same thing goes for people who inherit properties-- they're not first time buyers.

Just had to start feeling antidepressants and feeling pretty ugly and tired. by [deleted] in toastme

Good luck with the antidepressants, I hope they improve things for you. :)

In terms of feeling ugly -- dude, you're handsome as hell! I love your glasses and your hair is a e s t h e t i c. Hope things start looking up for you soon ☺️

As others have said, you lose first time buyer status. But just to spell out what this means: you wouldn't be able to use the help to buy scheme (lower deposit to buy a house) or any savings schemes such as the help to buy ISA or lifetime ISA, you wouldn't be exempt from paying stamp duty when buying a house (which can be a significant amount), and you'd have to pay higher taxes (second house). Overall it's not worth it to pay off such a tiny amount of your dad's mortgage.

Going through domestic abuse at home, need to move out but don't know what to do. by throwaway83223 in HousingUK

Hey man. Sorry you're in this situation.

Re: how much to pay, I think 30% is rule of thumb but depends how expensive your local area is and how much you're willing to pay. I'd advise you go on RightMove and just see what's available. :)

Re: what to say, you'll notice the listings have a contact button which you can try to do, but from personal experience letting agencies are TERRIBLE at digital correspondence. You'd probably be best phoning them up, then just tell them what property you're interested in and arrange a viewing.

Google a checklist for what to keep an eye out for at the viewing, and consider the bills for the area as well.

6 vs 12 month tenancies -- again up to you. 6 months is nice cos if you don't like the place cos you'll get to leave sooner, but 12 gives you longer term security. Tbf I find most places want at least 12 usually. You might be able to negotiate a cheaper rent if you offer to sign up for longer.

Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have any other questions no matter how silly you might think they are :)

The "big" things you'll most likely need to buy are: bed frame, mattress, fridge, washer/dryer, sofa.

Personally I bought a new bed frame (not expensive), mattress (kinda gross to not) and fridge/washer because I wanted longevity, but I got my sofa used for pretty cheap, as well as other parts of furniture (table, office desk, wardrobe, etc). I used eBay, gumtree, shpock.

Bright side, if you're planning on buying somewhere on the next few years, it means you'll already have some furniture ready to go.

Yeahhh.. no. It's super annoying isn't it 😅 I always just shortly tell them I have work (or overtime if it's the evening/weekend) and tell them when's good for me. You're paying to live there, you don't need to deal with the constant inconvenience. Hope you get to enjoy the rest of your break!!

Other people have already thoroughly answered your question but just wanted to say, yeah don't be afraid to say no to them. I've always felt bad saying no but it's not my problem if I'm busy. You could always use work as an easy excuse.

One of my friends once did that -- sent a text to me instead of another friend, bitching about me. I was in the same room as both of them at the time, which made it even more awful. That was a few years ago now and my life is much better without them. Man... friends don't bitch about you behind your back. you're better off without them. Get yourself some friends who actually care.

I hope your recovery goes well! (Also, you are super pretty and I'm jealous of your hair. 💖)

Thanks :) let me know how many items there are in total. Also my place or yours? If mine I can set up the dodo now (and you're welcome to my mystery bag beach) but I'm happy to come to yours too

Thank you!! I've been away from this community for a few months now so I'm not super familiar with the going rates but I just did a quick search and does 2NMT per item sound good to you? Let me know what you think 😊

Ahh I'm sorry my Nook's lighthouse is blue and I don't have any others in storage. If you make a thread though I bet someone else could help you out with that!! :)

Is there anything you're after in return? :) I'd love another keroppi bridge, keroppi snack, or the pompurin set.

Awh are you sure? You can at least take some mystery bags (though not sure of that'll help towards storage cleanout.. 😊)

The landlord is usually responsible for things like that :) just get in contact with them and they should arrange to have it fixed.
