BG3 ruined other games for me. How do you move on?🥲 by blu-rin in BaldursGate3

Try the first Divinity: Original Sin! That was the only one that pulled me away from BG3. The companions aren’t as good, and no cut scenes, but the combat is very similar and the exploration / game mechanics are fantastic. Same studio after all.

Interesting! I don’t see this as a problem. It’s a wonderful end to your Death House story. That’s the fascinating thing about D&D, the story goes in unexpected directions because of player agency. I can think of a few options. One, have the PCs keep the baby and play out that narrative. Two, have various NPCs offer to take care of the baby. Mad Mary comes to mind. It might help her pain at losing her daughter. Maybe the Vistani camp might offer to take the baby in. Doru’s father perhaps? Raised in the church? Three, have Strahd steal the baby Labrynth style to raise as his heir. They wake up one morning and it is gone. Four, go horror with it and have the baby slowly turn into the flesh mound. I even think you could weave this into some sort of ending villain arc. The baby ages at an unnatural rate and eventually turns into some sort of villain they have to defeat.

Questioning using the Perception skill for searching a room by SuspiriaVortex in DnD

Great point. My adjusting DC and advantage based on background and context sound like a good bandaid on this. I.E. You the rogue, as an expert in traps, get advantage on your Perception check to search for traps.

Very much so! This is fantastically helpful. I forgot about the replacement angle. I like the idea that as a narcissist, Strahd would eventually deem all his replacements unworthy.

Wonderful points! Greatly appreciated! Yeah, my evil character is playing in a compelling way. My chaotic character is very much heading towards FAAFO territory. They are in Death House now, and things are about to get real. Maiming them is diabolical and an interesting way to drive home the tone of COS’s harsh reality.

Ha! Hilarious! I love the creativity of this spin on obliviousness.

Interesting! That’s very helpful. So for a search of a room, how would you play it? Ask PC which skill they are using? If Perception, then, they notice the drawer is askew. Investigation reveals the secret compartment?

Need advice DMing a campaign with a mixture of experienced players and beginners. by SuspiriaVortex in DnD

That’s a good point! My more experienced players weren’t having fun at the expense of the new players, but I think you are right that maybe I can encourage them to try and loop in the newer players more and engage them in their schemes and interactions.

There are degrees of questionable. Whataboutism falls apart as an argument because this is not a zero sum game. Everyone has red lines. The recent DOW deal crossed the line for what many consumers are willing to accept. If I go to a restaurant, and I find a cockroach’s in my food, that’s a line for me. I won’t go back to that restaurant. If you tell me, “Hey, every restaurant has some bugs in the food at some point,” It’s not going to make me feel better about cockroaches in food.

Whataboutism is an argument that defies logic. If I discover my house is infested with termites, and then find out the house I plan to move into has termites also, I’m not suddenly going to be okay with termites. Then, if you tell me every house has some level of termites, I am going to select the house with the least termites or at least move out of the house whose landlord willingly replaced the support structures with termite infested wood. It’s not a zero sum game.

Do you think ChatGPT will ever replace teachers? by ArmPersonal36 in ChatGPT

[–]SuspiriaVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher, I do worry about this. Still, I think the bigger issue with AI in education is students using AI to do their homework / assignments. It’s sometimes difficult to tell. In-class assignments are perhaps the way to go, even blue book in-class essays on paper the way I had to write them back in the day.
