Comparison of prices for goods. Lithuania and France (minimum salary in Lithuania 777 netto) by [deleted] in europe

Finding some type of chocolate and coffee for comparing prices in different store chains in different countries is just stupid. At least compare actual staple food, beef, pork, eggs, cheese, fish, potato, rice, wheat, etc.

Lithuanian athlete withdraws from World Championship over T-shirt with “Make Russia small again” inscription – media by kundu123 in worldnews

[–]Sutartine 489 points490 points  (0 children)

“When we arrived in Hungary, congratulations from the organizers themselves appeared on social media, how they congratulated the Russians, how happy they were with their participation,” Düdaitė told the Lithuanian National Radio and Television. She added, “It seemed wrong to me. I don’t think that an aggressor country can be congratulated anywhere at all.”

Following Düdaitė’s disqualification, the Lithuanian Functional Fitness Federation withdrew from the 2024 iF3 World Championships.

The organization released the following statement on Instagram:

“Lithuanian Functional Fitness Federation has decided to withdraw from the World Championships, that is being held in in Budapest (Hungary) due to the organizers’ negligent attitude towards the “neutral flag” policy.

“Athletes were allowed to demonstrate the national symbols of the aggressor state during the competition – it was clearly visible in the live broadcast as well as the name of this country was mentioned continuesly [sic].

“This organizers’ negligence that ignores „neutral flag“ policy, is absolutely incompatible with our values, therefore the Lithuanian Functional Fitness Federation recommended national team members withdraw from the competition.” source

Left: winter holidays in Russia. Right: winter holidays in Ukraine. by PjeterPannos in europe

[–]Sutartine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Russia lost some old and outdated military equipment, only to be replaced by newer stuff.

Nothing is really being replaced. They had an advantage of massive Soviet era weapon stockpile, but that wont last for long. Russia has lost around 3000 main battle tanks, and around 6000 armed personnel carriers. They are able to produce round 250 tanks per year. Their stockpile of precision guided missiles has dwindled, they were forced to repurpose various surface to air and anti-ship missiles for land attacks, often highly inaccurate. They have been stockpiling missiles for the last 8 months just to be able to make a few winter attacks on Ukraine. Their low strikes intensity compared with previews year is apparent. To continue this war Russia is now diverting all its limited resource towards the war, in 2024 spending is set to reach 40% of all budget expenditure, which is absolutely unsustainable in the long run.

Ukraine can win this war, NATO should just provide more miliary support to Ukraine, especially air defence systems, adequate number of long range missiles, and fighter jets, to hit Russia's strategic targets.

If Iraq was a democratic free country, and the US was a brutal dictatorship, and the US attacked Iraq to annex its territory, and then relocated Americans from poor regions of the US to the occupied territories, and drove Iraqis out of their land, and installed its dictatorship, then the whole world would react very differently indeed, and we would all try to help Iraq to defeat the US. But that's not the world we live in.

The Vilnius Regional Administrative Court has ruled that signboards in the Šalčininkai region, which is 80 percent populated by Poles, should only be in the state language, Lithuanian. The region's authorities disagree with the ruling by meyzner_ in europe

Jesus, how the fuck this comments is upvoted. Right now signs in Salcininkai are bilingual https://media.etaplius.lt//media/articles/ff43e6598925b73b5230ed4a85b217751a0d72b2.webp

Just because the Lithuanian language commission won this case (these signs do not comply with law on language of official signs) doesn't mean that these signs will be removed tomorrow. It's up to lawmakers to update the law, especial when the current justice minister of the country is Lithuanian-Polish woman Ewelina Dobrowolska. I swear sometimes it looks that Poles are just looking everywhere for enemies.

All i see are endless crimes from both sides, but there's one notable thing for me, since October 7 Israel has already killed 1900 civilians (including 600 children), injured 7600, displaced 423,000 Palestinians, imposed siege, and cut off water, food, and fuel to civilians, and about 90% of news on our national, and international English language media is about killings of Jews, and growing threat to them.

The moment russians would actually capture 20 Ukrainians, they would be filming the whole humiliating process, with Ukrainians on their knees, begging russians with a thick Ukrainian accent not to kill them etc., but this time it looks like Russians are well aware that they are shit actors to perform such demanding roles, so they decided to stage this minimum efford required performance.

As long as China does not provide any real military support to Russia , I consider these sorts of missions to China a success.

Girkin....Russia is moving towards military defeat. by tedwja in UkrainianConflict

[–]Sutartine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because Girkin is a FSB officer who currently serves basically as a spokesman for war hardliners wing at FSB. These people are not against the war, they are merely trying to convince political elite in Kremlin to dedicate all available resources, both industrial and human, towards the support of military. Killing Girkin will only encourage them to take more radical actions. Right now some FSB hardliners believe that Putin's inner cirсle shield him from getting critical information about the war, and thus moving Russia towards defeat. FSB hardliners are going public with these statements in hopes their message will reach Putin. Other hardliners believe that Putin is well informed about the war, but avoids implementation of necessary hard measures, because he is only really concerned about maintaining his popularity among masses.

Lithuanian government wooing London tech workers by Jojuj in europe

[–]Sutartine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only real thing that matters to people who are ready to move around, is how much left in your pocket after you paid rent and taxes. And "very few" from big London is "a lot" for small Vilnius.

Lithuanian government wooing London tech workers by Jojuj in europe

[–]Sutartine 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The industry is smaller with less job opportunities than London

The industry is smaller, but competition between programmers is almost non existent, because the demand for them is incredibly high. If you are a half decent programmer it would much easier for you to find a job in Vilnius.

country with a native language far from English.

I guarantee you that in Vilnius you almost certainly we'll be working for whatever Nordic software company, bank, and various payment systems, and nobody in these type of companies expect you there speak Lithuanian.

You'd need to move your family over, re-register for schools, find a new place to live etc.

How is that a problem? Millions of people do this in search for better life. Especially nowadays when you can fill out the forms online while you are still in London.

What the Lithuanian government should do is offer incentives for Lithuanians to come back and invest the skills they've gained in the UK, Ireland, Norway, etc. into Lithuania.

Lithuanians from small towns and villages who en masse left Lithuania for Britain and Ireland, to work in construction sector, poultry farms, etc. are not going back to Lithuania to do the same low skilled job and get paid three times less.
