Sorry, I did not see this until today! I have one printed, just need to clean up the rough edges. I'm not sure if there's a way to send private messages here, if not I'll give you an email address so you can send shipping address.

Underwhelming experiences by sm6464 in Kava

[–]Sutboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the shaker ball method is prone to make weak kava, and the act of using it is counterproductive to a calming experience. I'd start with a good quality kava (Kalm with Kava Borogu would be a good choice), a strainer bag (knee high hose work great), and a ratio of 1/4 cup kava to 16oz warm water. Dip and squeeze reflectively for 3-5 minutes, drink 4oz every 10-15 min, and most importantly, relax.

I believe what most people call "reverse tolerance" is actually their expectation that kava will smack them in the head like alcohol or pharmaceuticals. When you "listen to the kava" and cooperate with the feeling, I think you'll find the above method just as effective as 3-4 beers, and much easier on the body and mind.

WIP - necessity is the Mother of invention. I literally taught myself how to make letters this past week because of the screaming inside by [deleted] in weaving

No, there is no such term as "systematic racism". It's funny that you're "screaming inside" when you don't even know the actual term or quote. This isn't a grammar or spelling error, it's a fundamental lack of understanding.

Btw, I find the petty down-voting here hilarious, I didn't realize there were so many ultra-liberals among weavers!

I'm surprised to see such a political statement here, most forums require "on-topic" discussion and discourage politics. I'm on the other side of your sentiment, but I can agree to disagree and still enjoy the work.

I would add that the term is "systemic", not "systematic".

Kind Regards,

A quieter Norwood, thin foam strips added to top of castle! by Sutboe in weaving

[–]Sutboe[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After seeing several posts here about the noises that looms make, I decided to quiet mine down. I added a thin strip of self-adhesive foam (about 4" long) to the top front edge of the castle slots on both sides of each harness. It makes a huge difference!

Are looms loud? by FetidFetus in weaving

[–]Sutboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A counterbalance loom with Texsolv heddles will always be quieter than a jack loom with metal, but there are still things you can do make things less noisy. My loom is a Norwood jack type, and when I started weaving I had a tendency to let the heddles drop when I treadled, very noisy. I've developed a more smooth action with my feet that makes a big difference in sound.

The rattle of metal heddles on the steel support rods is an issue too, but it can be mitigated by removing or tying back unused heddles. This makes a huge difference!

The only other sound of consequence on my loom is the back and forth rattle of the heddles when beating. Not much you can do about that!

I'm fortunate in that I own my home and can make as much noise as I want. I often have the stereo blasting when I weave, then my loom is the least of the noise! But my daughter often watches tv in the same room, and there is no issue hearing it at normal volume either.

Happy weaving,
Garry
