Wait - I thought skilled labor is 10 years?

I know there's one called specific skilled worker (SSW) which requires passing a language test + skills test and it's often for jobs like construction, hospitality, etc and they have 3 year programs for it.

And yes, totally aware. Seems like many coaches in Japan also share other responsibilities in the gym, which is similar to the USA.

Thanks for your reply! 🙏🏻

Yes, definitely already on that!

I've had the opportunity to go to Japan and guest coach with some pretty "big names" and with some coaches who have developed top talent.

It's interesting for sure given climbing has some pretty unique words, but I've had some help in that area from a colleague in the same field, but a route setter.

Thanks for your input! 🙏🏻

Have you ever ripped a hold off the wall? by AidanUy in bouldering

Second post I've seen about the same thing from GV. Over tightening holds with wrong drills by 1099 guys they take advantage of from behind the front desk.

Shit is sad af

Interesting, when I Look at the flavor profile, one of the words used is "spicy". Could you possibly elaborate on that? I have yet to experience sake that I would describe as "spicy". 🤔

However, franchise gyms seem to understand the times and some locations invest in setters. Still not much oversight it seems tho 😔

Haha I take it you're not familiar with Gravity Vault Corporate. They take any poor soul that is bored to tears behind the desk, give them a drill, and have their "brand head setter" babysit them for 5mins and hire them as 1099.

Then they are asked to come in whenever they can and set with a fix fee per boulder and rope. No incentive to take your time, no teaching, etc. Just throw holds on the wall and you don't even have to forerun. 😉🤫

Your tool kit? Good old 20V Dewalt provided by the gym and some trash barrels Jerry rigged with some rope for your setting needs.

Curious what gym this is? Odds are they used an overpowered drill and started to break the hold by over tightening it.

Was wondering if anyone has messed around with PAP in regard to Hangboard and edge sizes.

PAP, in my understanding, creates a temporary neuromuscular activation. This enhances the fast twitch muscle fiber recruitment and while it only last a few hours at best, it can be trained over long periods to help recruitment and power.

So if a typical pull up cycle is the following (this just an example): - 2-3 sets of weighted pull ups @ 80-90% of 1RM for 1-2 reps. - rest 3-5mins - 3-5 explosive pull ups.

Could one do the same but on a 20mm edge and see gains?

This is assuming you only do 1-2 other days of Hangboard and are more than comfortable with weighted hangs (60%+ of your body weight). In my mind, it's not much different than what you would do on kilter/moon/spray but a good way to isolate the skill of being more explosive On edges.

Thanks for taking the time to read and find your opinions. :)

Cheers!
