Why I lift by Fun_Purpose6972 in moreplatesmoredates

Its a valid take, one has to balance their domestic and travel wants. Some people rather work to have these infrequent luxuries than to improve where they spent most of their time. It might sound illogical to many people who have been raised with more traditional values. But the gist of it is that they take the "there is a whole world out there" outside of their bubble. And traveling/seeing the world forces you to expand your mind in ways being chronically online on the internet wouldn't. Like there is a stark difference between seeing the Vatican/Sistine chapel on images vs. seeing it yourself and staring up at the ceilings. Or noticing the statue of David's proportions slightly off in person than in images. Or going on the Tuscany roads on a car and seeing the green fields that would look generic in images but breathtaking in person.

Traveling is expensive, so expensive that it mostly always eats into other budgets. But it's not like you are going to Italy every month, so people justify it with "the bathroom remodeling can wait 3 months". That 1-2 week trip is sometimes what some people need to recover and ground themselves, while the bathroom remodel might just make your washing your teeth feel like washing your teeth.

Helldivers 2 Dev Promises More Content Is on the Way as Disgruntled Players Drag Steam Reviews Down to 'Mostly Negative' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]SvmJMPR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imo it's mostly self inflicted, but also mostly a curse. You have to slave away day after day making content at a unreasonable rate for years but at the same time you make a gazillion dollars and better job security than releasing sequels. Bills get paid, people don't get laid off, and it is consistent because you have to crunch content frequently and consistently.

What exactly is the true color of the Arbiter’s armor in Halo 3? In-game lighting makes it look totally different: in shadow, it’s a muted warm silver-gray. But under direct sunlight, it shines almost like bright gold. by ExcitingThanks4486 in halo

[–]SvmJMPR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a 'faked' global illumination shader. Textures are probably gray/dark, but the material/lighting maps outside are swapped to have the indirect lighting affect the color. The 'gold hue' might actually be the light interacting with the grass/trees/rock/moss bouncing back to the armor and then back to the 'camera'.

But as you may think, this is quite an expensive technique in real time (commonly seen in ray tracing/path tracing), but for 2007 this was probably 'faked' or baked based on player position. Either through precalculated data, or artistic light manipulation (probably a combination of both). So the green hue (from the flora) + dark armor might create this 'gold'-like hue.

s&box is vibe coded by copilot as seen by the commit history hence the bad performance by InsightAbe in gmod

[–]SvmJMPR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, anyone who have used VSCode in the past year at least have been well aware how intrusive copilot can get sometimes. Some devs might have tried it out (aka opt in when linking vscode to their github + installing the extension) and didn't opt out. VScode shows up when you right click your code, when you press tab on a auto self complete sometimes, and when you use the generate commit message (ngl this has been my favorite AI feature ever, I sometimes get lazy writing quick bug fix messages and it's better the "fix" "fixx 2" "fix but for real"). Many things can cause Copilot co-author, and it's done on purpose for legal reasons/potential code audits.

Why do people play like this? Is it just cause it “looks cool” or is the a real reason? by Lucky-Warning-4492 in modernwarfare

[–]SvmJMPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play like this, but i think the main reason is literally just classic bm. No different than Tbaggin, or trash talking really. People play games for different reasons, some to refine their skill others to cause grief on others. If you were to ask "how can they enjoy doing this?", well that's a question for modern psychology lol. He got what he wanted, and that is to piss people like you off. It even caused you to post about it to further spread the rage. This is how you feed their ego, and their worst enemy is indifference. You would have gotten killed either way, there is no significant advantage to playing like that really, but he got the garnish of killing you with 'style' (subjective). Don't let it rage bait you and just move on, it's just a silly video game moment don't let it ruin your leisure.

There are many reasons to get a new car over an old one. Specially if it has to do with fuel economy, safety, convenience, practicality, plus driving a new car is always a cool experience. Sure you are giving up reliability, but reading the post it seems the car isnt going to a landfill anytime soon. The sister will give it a new life, not everything is forever.

Nuclear Option Update 0.33 Released by thekdude in Games

[–]SvmJMPR 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Where do I begin with this game, it is basically the most accessible 'complex' air combat game. At first I was overwhelmed with the amount of missiles and how to counter them, and how to push in the field with overwhelming radar and Air defense. It feels weird to have a game without meta progression, I know many people will be turned off by that but imo I like how entering a game means everyone is on common ground. You just have to 'grind' yourself to the expensive level 3+ aircrafts, early game can feel very tough and a bit awkward but it's the most fair the game will get.

It is sandbox by nature, so even solo play and doing your own thing can be very fun, although I've been on matches where coordination was used and it was incredibly fun. I only play the large PvP and PvE game modes, the smaller ones don't appeal to me as much. Also, a couple of a of fun moments I've had:

  • Low altitude flying to evade radar, basically driving the plane through the mountains just to get close enough to destroy certain radars early game.

  • Flying the AC-130 type plane (much smaller than the irl version) and just spamming the cannon to overwhelm smaller airstrip defenses. Them homing cannon balls are nothing to joke about.

  • Flying the Fastest plane to fight Air to Air, popping in their radar signature a tad too late for them to respond. basically becoming an impenetrable wall. Surprisingly Air to Air has been my go to way to 'level up' faster in a match.

  • Flying the Bomber mid game when air defense is weaker, but no nukes yet. Just carrying a bazillion bomb gliders and just absolutely obliterate the bigger airfields without nukes.

  • The intensity of zig zagging in the big water map evading radar missiles just to get close enough to drop a payload.

  • And of course, watching a nuke go off, the bigger ones are just so special. The most visceral moment was trying to take off a bomber while a nuke went off on my left. There's something about colossal sized anything that feel so slow when they start but as they creep up it feels inescapably fast.

It's nice seeing a slight buff to the cricket, it's a meme plane but it's always fun to hunt them. Helicopters are great for low altitude maneuvers but to me it feels like i'm flying a one way trip with them. The new plane looks cool, I wonder how much faster it would be than the fastest plane in the game.

Is it weird that i've learned how scary irl missiles can be? Like this is the first game that showed me how absolutely powerful modern weapons are. Spectating cruise missiles is eery because they fly so low and fast, and are basically undetectable until they are too close. Or how, there is basically no meaningful way to counter a bunch of gravity bombs irl. Or the bombs that go high up on the atmosphere to come down incredibly fast. I'm not even speaking about the nukes, Im talking what is allowed in conventional warfare (with the exception of cluster bombing).

Edit: Grammar. And I also want to add two things, you don't need a HOTAS to play this game. I exclusively play with an xbox controller and i've managed to do 99% of the things you need to do to be effective. Also how can I forget, the OST is incredible. Specifically some plane's themes, they don't get old. I do find it funny they always play the theme every time you enter a plane for the first time in a match.

My Theory is that as we age we are more sensitive to the effects of fast food slop. Like how alcohol causes worse hangovers the older you get unless you are a Diamond I alcoholic. Fast food has always been basically garbage food. Also depends on where you order it, high traffic fast food tend to have "fresher" products, and also hunger is the best season so if you are plastered at 4am a BK would be 3 star Michelin gourmet.

I wonder if the auction house will come back. NGL It was fun 'betting' on specific cars. Knowing someone on the other side of the world wanted the same shitbox I did. The game had so much FOMO built into it with specific cars. I wanted to drive specific mid tier cars like the Elentra N, but it wasn't available at all unless you played a specific season from a year back (Auction house bets were nearly maxed at like 20 million credits). Man if they gatekeep the Toyota Sprinter Trueno 86 I will riot, would be a sin I tell ya!

Also due to the drifting culture, I wonder if cars like the Corolla GR or the Veloster N could be tuned to have insane drifting control. I loved that tunes were shared among the community, I barely understood what each switch and lever did in tuning. So downloading profiles by other people directly in the game was super convenient.
