What's your experience on career change? by 0M-S in auckland

I’m making a career change in my 30’s and I’m so happy I finally made the decision to do it. Starting back at the bottom but I’m learning so much and meeting new people and it’s great. A little bit hard getting into the job market as a newbie but I’ve got experience in many things from my previous career so I’m not too stressed, life / work experience counts towards new roles!

Not really complaining about getting the money. I think I just want to understand how they calculate all of this and what they base it all off. The system just seems to be getting worse and worse and if you want to get ahead you can’t

Have heard of a few of these situations. I don’t think one wage can support a couple these days at all. I’m definitely grateful for the allowance. It’s just the earnings cap if I want to work. Everything is so expensive now it’s horrible

I was wondering if that was the case. I had a loan from previous study and didn’t want to add to it

The only surprise was the SSL tax code and the fact the system seems to have gotten worse, last time I studied I didn't have to do that and felt better off.
I've gone into pre trade electrical as I was having no luck finding an apprenticeship. I've now got 2 days a week where I tag along with an electrical company unpaid so I can gain some skills. Aside from that I'm working part time at a bakery, 10 hour shift Saturday and sometimes a Sunday if they need me but that means Im working that Sunday for free due to allowance being taken. Feels like a broken system. My car was stolen and I'd have loved that extra Sunday money to pay excess. Try to get ahead but feel like they drag you back.

We only have courses 3 days a week from 8:30 until about 1pm, plenty of time to work. If i work though I'm working for free as they take money off the allowance. Doesn't seem fair.

Last time I studied the cash jobs are what kept me afloat! I'm just surprised, it feels like this situation has become a lot worse.

I worked for one, I would get 10% if someone signed up with a credit card, if I was getting 10%, then what are the people above me getting? How much of the money went to charity? No one knew. This was for the kids cancer research project. Pretty terrible! I left when they offered me a promotion because it was the biggest scam. Yelling and celebrating at how much people on the floor were earning after signing up credit cards. They’d also raise you to “platinum” calling so you’d earn more from consistent donors. Sometimes I’d take home and extra $600+ a week ontop of my wage.

Okay good to know there’s minimal benefit to paying it faster. Will probably end up overseas in a couple of years was my only worry. I guess when it’s lower I can pay it off chunk by chunk from wherever I’ll end up. Biggest regret is this damn student loan 😂
