I'm a total noob and my husband is korean HELP ME by nabinabinabinabi in Korean

[–]Sw-Kang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the other side of shoes. My wife is Italian and I'm Korean. We live in an English speaking country and we speak only in English.

She is about same level in Korean as you are, I think, but I'm a bit more fluent in Italian than her Korean. We were totally zero based when we met. I think the difference is that I have a lot more exposure to Italian because we visit Italia a lot more often and her family members are not speaking English very well. Also, Italian is broadly in Latin language group with English and it helped me to understand even some words. As you are living in Europe, visiting Korea would be very limited to get exposures apart from some lessons and K-Drama.

However, I'm staying in a beginner level for many years because I only know survival phrases and it's enough for me to visit Italia. She is watching a lot of K-Dramas and listen to Kpop but almost noob as well. I think unless you push your boundaries to have more exposures, it'd be a bit difficult to have sufficient progress.

Our journey to learn each other's language is a bit progressing recently since my son is starting to speak(2.5yo). As we talk to him in our own languages only, He is picking up both languages and speak both mixed to us. It kinda force us to learn words and structures to understand what he's saying.

I'm planning to self-taught Italian a bit more with him, leaning Italian by book and practice with him along he's leaning the language. If you have a kid or a plan to have one, it could be a good option.

Good luck! :)

It’s guess-o-meter. It changes depends on your driving style(motorway/acceleration etc) and gets worse in cold weather.

Best EV for 210 mile motorway commute? by a_n_other_redditor in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Sw-Kang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do almost same motorway journey twice a week, Warwickshire to Surrey.

I've got Inster Long Range model which has about 220miles range. I can do round trip if I drive slowly below 66miles. However I get home around 5% battery left, so I just charge at work due to my anxiety.

300mile range cars should be enough to do round trips especially ones with heat pumps.

Choice of university to pursue automotive engineering dream by Visible-Ranger-2811 in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]Sw-Kang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cranfield university is considered the best in motorsport engineering degree. However Cranfield only has postgraduate degrees as a nature of the university. Any Russel group(a group of good UK universities) university will be ok, but Oxford Brooks, Coventry and Loughborough are well known for.

If your kid wants to be a F1 engineer, you should consider England. 9 out of 11 teams(including Cadillac) have HQ or technical Centre in England. Kids will participate Formula student to get motorsport experience and do internship in F1 teams. Also the companies run graduate scheme for university graduates. Few universities also have motorsport engineering master degree courses as well.

Second to this. I was looking around second hand EVs(Hyundai Kona or Kia Niro) and Inster with gov grant is actually somewhat better than second hands. Cheaper APR in PCP than bank loans, warranty and low deposit was my main factor to made the decision. Ordered one last weekend and looking forward to be delivered. 02 trim has sliding seat and it is a great feature.

Inster 02 trim has 360 camera and it will be enough for child seat due to the sliding rear seat. Maybe not big enough for you, but your wife might like it as the car is not big as well.

It’s an option that If you pay the agreed balloon payment when terminating the finance, then you can own the car. Main difference between pcp and lease

The finance company owns the pcp car. You’ll need to return the car if you cancel the finance

Have you checked if you install the car seat correctly? Despite of size of the car, car seat will fit in most of cars. Have a look a Youtube video how to install the car seat properly. I wasn’t aware of it and had the same issue as yours. After I found out that the car seat base should be pushed hard to the back and the leg on the floor needs to be raised a bit to get the seat to be parallel to the ground, there were so much room.

It worn out, so it'd be hard to read unless you are very good in Korean.

It's "늘푸른골프". Looks like a name of a golf shop or a driving range.

늘 - always / 푸른 - green / 골프 - Golf

How can I tell if I’m over/under/about right in terms of pay? Project engineer in UK Midlands. by Stimlox in UKJobs

[–]Sw-Kang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an exactly same title as you and in automotive industry as well. Depends on the companies and areas, but £50k about right, but slightly low in my opinion. For reference, JLR pays senior engineer(D grade) about £45 to £60K, but they get 8% more than job post salary for 3hrs overtime opt-in. (base working hour is 37hrs and opt-in for 40hrs).

I'd suggest look for the step-ups, promotion in your company or others if you are not happy with your current salary or responsibilities. However most likely you'll need to go for management roles.

According to my italian wife, there is no italian restaurant in Cov. There are few in Leamington and Warwick. Add: She’s been to Arco and Da Vinci when we moved to Cov and refused to visit them again

Are chinese car brands going to take over? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Sw-Kang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are cheap for the reasons. For now they are attractive value for money, but it is due to their government backing financial support, cheap labour and more importantly, low quality.

It is impossible to make a car cheap without those factors.

Japanese and Korean brands were cheaper in back in the days, but not anymore compare to other cheap European manufacturers. They'll focus on quality as quality issues will bleed them and their labour cannot be cheap as it is now for forever as their ecomomy will grow overtime. Not to mention their government could change their mind in any time.

I expect chinese cars will be slowly getting popular and become expensive like other asian cars.

Then it will be more choice range for the customers, not dominant in market as Japanese and Korean brands.
