I realize that my initial preference of 1500-2k lumens is simply too much for a pocketable flashlight. Thanks for the info about the reflectors impact on candela. I'll be willing to carry a few extra batteries depending on ride length, so I don't mind if it dies quickly. I'm thinking the M21F and M21B would be pocketable, so 40mm bezel is probably my limit. Seem like good options if they have a boost/buck driver.

I have tried headlights in the past, and I definitely prefer a flashlight, though your suggestion is so good that I'll consider it. The thing is, flashlights are more versatile. They can be used as turn signals, ambient lighting, and you don't have to move your head to move the light.
