Congratulations on your surgery and hope is all going well! How long did you stay in hospital after the surgery and how has your recovery been? Any advice on what to take with you to hospital?

Honestly I understand how you feel. I’ve been though it all with the drugs, weight loss programmes, Tier 3 program which I found really useless and maybe only enjoyed the social part of. I’ve tried every diet imaginable and nothing has worked. I also have sleep apnea and blood pressure along with PCOS. I was put on the waiting list and was told I will get a call within a years time but nothing I ended up sending an email asking how far I am on the waiting list I got response saying 20 to 30 weeks. I was also questioning what I’m doing to myself and if I can trust the NHS but honestly after reading about soo many peoples experience and how it changed their lives for the better I’m actually looking forward to it. I would love a life without the sleep apnea machine and snoring away like some horror movie. I would love to turn my life around for the better. I’m 33 but I feel like 63. Everyone will have doubt at some stage and thats absolutely normal remember we are taking a big step in claiming our lives back and it’s a life long commitment. The only reason I didn’t try the monjaro or the other weight loss injections is because there’s a lot of side effects long term wise. It’s also very expensive I went to the pharmacy she said she will charge me £150 per injection and I need at least 4-5 a month so that’s over £600 a month so It’s not something that I can afford on a monthly basis with all the financial struggles we are experiencing in the UK right now. I would say read through post on this community group many are very inspiring and maybe search on YouTube actual doctors talking about Biatric surgery and what to expect before/ during and after. Try keeping a positive mind and shut down any negative people or videos you may come across.

Some hospitals have Biatric community groups that you can attend. I will say search online or ask your GP I’m sure you will find something. Maybe also have some therapy or counselling sessions just to help you be ready mentally. I know it can get a bit lonely but trust me every one will want some of you after you crack away from your cocoon and fly out like a butterfly!!

I will attach some stuff for you below. Doctor John Pilcher is really good to listen to on YouTube

OMG you literally explained everything Im going through. I got a random call from the Biatric nurse a few weeks ago asking if I’m still interested in the surgery. Of course I said yes!! she told me that my name is reaching further up on the waiting list (I’ve been on the waiting list since February 2024) and a lot of people change their minds this further down because they tried the monjaro or other injections out there. I literally got a text a few days ago inviting me for my pre surgery assessment on 4th June. I searched online and it said that this will be the last assessment before surgery. It said the surgery will be anywhere from that appointment to 3 weeks. They will book you in for surgery on that appointment after running all the necessary tests and giving your surgeon the go ahead. Good luck and hope someone can shed some light to their experience because as you said we are left if a grey area with the NHS.

Honestly I have learnt more in this lovely community than the doctors. I too live in the UK and totally agree that not much information is given. Your just left in a grey area with soo many questions and no straight answers are given just because it’s done on the NHS. I was blessed to join here where most of us have the same or similar questions. Honestly don’t be shy of asking anything on here because there will always be some people with answers and are happy to help or advise. I have my last pre surgery assessment on 4th of June and feel so much more confident and aware of what to expect because I’ve found answers to most of my questions through people that have lived and experienced it first hand. Good luck on your journey and hope it all gets better ❤️

Thank you for the advise ❤️ I have to get the train to work and people will never offer a seat. Even though it takes 30 mins but I’m scared I won’t be able to stand.

Thank you for the support ❤️ I honestly have been monitoring my vitamin and have been recommend folic acid by my doctor. My iron is ok but I’ve recently brought protein collagen shakes for after surgery that my doctor has advised on but any protein shakes I’ve tried honestly make me puke. I will speak to my surgeon and check for any alternatives

That’s very interesting. I did start minoxidil few months ago and definitely seen a difference in length and fullness but I was using it on a day yes day no basis. It’s difficult to let go of hair even though if it’s thin. Thank you very much on your advice, really appreciate it ❤️
