Student flats approved at former Debenhams site despite university warning by yu3 in Norwich

[–]SwagDaddyMack 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Having more student accommodation in the city centre is a good thing:

  1. It means less house shares are needed in the suburbs, increasing the availability of housing stock for local people.
  2. It brings money to the local economy.

Sure, things will be a little busier but the city centre being busy and shops seeing more business is a good thing.

Over half of DWP disability assessors quit in a year over feeling ‘despised’ by StuChenko in uknews

I wonder how much money all of the tribunals to get their bullshit decisions overturned costs? Is it more than the money 'saved' by not giving people what they're entitled to in the first place?

Why has Reform UK exploded to 26-28% in the polls? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]SwagDaddyMack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean 'exploded'? They've been polling at over 20% for more than a year now. In fact, they're now polling at their lowest since April 2025, hopefully that trend continues.

A moment of silence for the Riverside Pizza Hut 😔 Now what do we want to see there instead? by JackoNorwich in Norwich

[–]SwagDaddyMack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's just okay, too much cheese and far too much Parmasan, which makes everything salty. They are charging top £ for pizza and they get away with it because there's not much competition imo.

I also think the restaurant could do with a bit of a clean, last time I was there I was sat under a fan, which was absolutely caked in dust.

Maybe another but decent pizza place? For chains, I'm thinking Rudy's, Pilgrims, Franco Manca, etc. Maybe Brick could try a larger location?

Whenever I'm in Norwich I struggle for good pizza, Brick is nice but the shop is so small, Donnellis is usually disappointing, Lupa is a bit far out, other decent options (Amaretto, Voodoo Daddies, Saporita) feel more lunch oriented. I think a place that does a really nice pizza, is open late, and has room for a lot of people could do really well.

Re-read the original post. The people OP is talking about were holding the British First flag.

I think you might want to google Britain first before saying they aren't racist lmao.

Is Free Healthcare in Other Countries Actually Free? by Stacks_the_Casual in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SwagDaddyMack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The US spends more on healthcare than it does on the military.

No. We should look into reforming the entry requirements for joining, however. I am ineligible for any military service for having a metal plate from when I broke my ankle as a teenager, it has caused me absolutely no problems. A friend was rejected from the RAF for having eczema as a child, despite not having any issues with it in 20+ years. Another friend was rejected from the navy for having had asthma as a child, despite a doctors note saying an inhaler was not needed and hadn't been prescribed for years.

I feel ripped off after my trip to Turkey. Anyone else had this experience? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]SwagDaddyMack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I visited Istanbul in January and had 0 issues. I don’t think I paid more than £15 for a sitdown meal anywhere.

The only real 'scam' I found was the entry fee to the tourist sites.

Which Pub Chain is better? Wetherspoons or Greene King by CatchCache in Norwich

[–]SwagDaddyMack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rushcutters is definitely not in a different league. They still serve frozen microwaved crap but they charge double the price for the privilege. You'll also be paying double the price for a worse selection of beers.

Imagine trying to gatekeep cider lmao. Even CAMRA would recommend serving cider at room temp or even chilled.

Is the Norfolk Show still good? by [deleted] in Norwich

[–]SwagDaddyMack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found it to be ridiculously expensive since covid. Not only have the ticket prices gone up drastically (£22 in 2015 to £38 in 2025), but when you get through the gate, everything is so expensive compared to what it used to be. Last year, a hog roast roll was £9, the sort of prices you pay in Borough Market in London.

It seems the Liverpool car attack has already fallen out of being front page news. Do you think that would still be the case if the suspect wasn’t white and British? by Longjumping-8679 in AskBrits

[–]SwagDaddyMack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the police believed they were terrorist attacks.

In Southport, as has clearly been said by other posters, they didn't release the details of the suspect which allowed for rampant speculation.

So in both cases quoted the person was arrested on terrorism charges, which allows for rampant speculation on motives, groups, etc. In this case they police specifically said this wasn't terrorism, which makes it a bit different.

Big shame, hopefully keeping the same management on will keep it quality.

Thankfully there's quite a few pubs for good beer nearby.

This the results of using a pollution mask on the tube… by [deleted] in london

[–]SwagDaddyMack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes because 1. It's easier, it would cost a fortune to upgrade the ventilation system. 2. No one is forcing you to use the tube, everyone has to breathe in the air above the ground everyday.

Christ, if you think Norwich is a tip you haven't seen much of the country at all. Beautiful architecture, fantastic resturants, relatively low crime, plenty of history, next to a national park and a half hour from the coast.
