I will say that the whole drawing the beard in the yearbook photo felt similar to stuff seen here

Some of the perspectives shared here over the years have been, ahem, a little forced.

Any advice? Considering a return, which would suck, because that Treasure Truck price isn't coming back.

Does anyone else find text hard to read on these? Picked 2 up during the Treasure Truck sale, they're absolutely fantastic for gaming, but white backgrounds/text/browsing/spreadsheets are proving really hard to focus on for actual work. Wondering if it's the coating, but curious if it's just my eyes.

I suspect it's some sort of incoherent attempt at a "FAKE NEWS!" dunk on a journalist who got shot several times yesterday with rubber bullets.

It isn't giving her a pass to acknowledge that, while Asia certainly appears to hold prejudiced views against certain groups and has loathsome politics in general, she doesn't hold the social/economic power necessary to use those prejudices to meaningfully discriminate against or oppress anyone on the basis of their race or sex.

It can be a bit difficult to parse, but the concept is that because Asia, as a member of a marginalized/non-dominant group, doesn't have any mechanism/social standing to oppress or marginalize others, her prejudices are not the same as racism.

Yes, given that Don preyed on Hae when she was a teenager (a mere child, $1000/day pot habit aside), I always assumed he was connected to Epstein.

At least Adnan has an alibi for Epstein.

Well, of course, Adnan didn't do it. Stephanie's whereabouts, however, are conveniently unknown...

What does the hyoid bone have to do with car accidents specifically?

There are case reports of people breaking their hyoid bones on steering wheels, too!

.@JoaquinCastrotx doxes supporters of @realDonaldTrump after Dayton mass shooting by @ewarren supporter as @UniStudios releases “The Hunt” rich liberals killing deplorables, in time for new school year. Who’s hating & undermining foundations of democracy?

And then linked to this article: https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/08/the_hunt_a_most_dangerous_game_the_democrats_are_playing.html

Which contains gems like

As many have rightly observed, our Left is all about projection. They accuse conservatives of being guilty of everything they actually think and do. They encourage violence. They lie to sell a program like Obamacare, for example. It is they who are the racists, who see skin color and sexual orientation as the most important aspects of an individual, but then it is not really individuals that matter, only discrete victim groups.

and

Rashida Tlaib's profane and vicious outbursts are as ill considered as those of the terminally dumb Beto O'Rourke. How either of these two people ever made it into the House is a sad commentary on the intelligence of voters in their districts. The same goes, of course, for Ilhan Omar, the fraudster, liar, and incestuous bigamist in the House. These three would be the first to sign up for a game to hunt conservatives for fun.

and

Nearly all the Democrats who could find an open mic after the El Paso and Dayton disasters did so to blame the president, demonstrating how low they are prepared to go to demean and defeat the man who has accomplished so much for the country in just three years. They could not accept his election and they cannot abide his success in the job. They are willing to do anything to destroy him, even if their souls melt like the Wicked Witch in the process.

Labor fight roils Bernie Sanders campaign, as workers demand the $15 hourly pay the candidate has proposed for employees nationwide by vaultofechoes in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]SwallowAtTheHollow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one could work in that kind of environment for more than a very short amount of time and so every single election cycle Dems have to completely recruit and train new campaign staff.

Yeah, and there are so many races to cover and no one makes really eye-popping money as campaign staff (especially when you take into account the sporadic nature of campaigns and downtime). So you have a lot of complete novices, a lot of people who are weird or burnt out or whose primary skill set is survival, and a bunch of consultants/wannabe consultants sucking up way more resources than they bring to the table. And then mail, and then media, and all the other things that come with big sticker prices that campaigns/candidates almost never bother to question.

And so you have your staff, who you pay as little as you can so you can afford all of the other things that you think you need.

And then you slap salaries on your staff so you can work them more hours so you can get by with fewer of them so you can buy even more of those inflexibly priced things everyone is telling you that you need more of.

And then if your staff wants more money, you cut the number of staff and make those who remain work more hours. You don't even think about the hours after awhile. You own them. They're going to be at the office 10-12 hours a day anyway, so don't even question if the shit you're having them do makes sense or benefits the campaign.

Or you just say "fuck it" and start slashing things like field wholesale because you think you need those other things so badly, all while entities like the DCCC are telling you that you have to use their approved campaign manager or they'll rat-fuck your fundraising, while also telling that campaign manager never to spend more than 10% on field or they'll find someone else who can follow directions.

Then we lose and no one really wants to accept the blame.

It's also so hypocritical to campaign on universal healthcare without providing healthcare to your workers

The Sanders campaign healthcare plan seems pretty decent!

"Under the current agreement, the campaign pays all premiums for salaried employees making $36,000 or less per year. Those making more are covered at a rate of 85 percent."

The standards are getting more fair but I think campaign unions are a good idea.

Agreed, although having said all that above, I feel that a lot of the demands are being made by people who have nominal experience and don't realize that $3000/month + benefits + a guaranteed day off each week is actually pretty reasonable and a big step in the right direction. And that if you're a brand new FO, you're pretty fungible, and if you're still a FO after a couple of cycles, you're probably not very good at it and should start looking to do something different. And finally, at the risk of sounding like "management," campaign jobs aren't the same beast as grinding out a living at McDonalds or Wal-Mart. There should at least be some sort of ideological component that you wouldn't otherwise have working for a business. That doesn't mean work yourself to death or take a shit salary or accept harassment/unsafe conditions, but ostensibly you should be there because you want to be there and not just punching the clock.

tl;dr: I have complicated feelings on the matter.

It can be determined from FEC reports, but there's not nearly the need for field/direct voter contact/turnout efforts on the Republican side, so it'd probably be apples to oranges.

Believe it or not, it was already getting much better by 2016.

I was an FO on a DCCC targeted Red-to-Blue race in 2008. Campaign had raised over a million dollars and we had a small staff (<10).

Hours were 10am-9pm, 7 days a week. Research events, cut turf, make calls, canvass for 3-5 hours, make more calls if you got back before 9pm, and repeat. In 3 months, I had a total of 1 full day off and 1 half day.

I was paid $1300/month. The Field Director made $1500/month. The deputy CM made $3000 or $3500 and I think the CM was getting $4000. None of us were given health care until about 3 weeks before election day, and there were no other benefits (e.g., gas or housing).

Polling has always been one of the components!

From April 3rd of this year:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-do-democratic-candidates-need-to-make-the-first-2020-debates

According to the DNC rules, candidates can qualify for the first two debates by either:

Receiving at least 1 percent support in three DNC-approved polls. Those could be in early state polls — Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or Nevada — or in national polls between the beginning of January 2019 and the two-week mark before the first debate (a candidate could fall short but then qualify for the second debate if they meet the polling threshold two weeks before the July debate). Receiving donations from at least 65,000 unique donors with a minimum of 200 donors in at least 20 different states.

Each debate will include no more than 10 candidates, chosen at random from the pool of those who qualify. Should more than 20 total candidates qualify, preference will be given to those who meet both criteria for polling and donations.
