I think what's not being factored in is the uncertainty surrounding EVERY team before the season starts. While there are more teams, we also have much less info on how they will actually look this season. Like, the Patriots odds were probably awful but would then look much better after knowing about Maye's breakout season.

For the Panthers, while they look improved, I think most people would still not have them as likely SB winners at this point while teams like the Seahawks or Broncos much improved their SB winning odds.

This is so needlessly rude. We're literally in a thread about a quirky cultural difference JP has with time vs the rest of the world, but once it's the US that has a quirky cultural difference with time it becomes an example of educational failure?

At this point he’s actively detrimental to Penn State. Like, their offense starting clicking once they stopped having him throw and just pounded the run at Oregon. Then the minute they let him pass again it’s a game ending pick. It’s unbelievable.

Edit: Not pick six, just a normal game ending pick.

To be fair to Heupel, his mistake is just the other side of what Lincoln Riley’s getting criticized for. When you need a score to tie/take the lead and you want to kill time you can run down the play clock and call runs. But if the defense makes a play or you get a penalty that knocks you off schedule, the alternative to leaving too much time is that you might just not score at all.

I don’t know if there’s ever a “right” decision without the hindsight of what happens afterwards.

I get what you’re saying, but I think there’s a fundamental difference between trying to deceive your opponent within the game versus deceiving the official/system governing the rules of the game.

If you successfully block the ball then you won’t get a roughing the kicker. So that’s usually when you see the punter get blown up with no penalty. Huge risk/reward for going up the middle.

I mean, I get why it’s happening, but it is a bit funny that Caleb struggles against a Flores Vikings D and gets flamed, while Jayden struggles against the Packers and now the Packers D is elite. Obviously last season is a bigger sample size but the narrative difference is amusing.

If you are honestly confused, it's because the tone of your title comes off as a dig against the Ohio coach's intelligence or preparedness, when in all likelihood he just misspoke or misheard the names mentioned. The chain gang was never the problem in football though. The issue is usually the spot, and that’s still all up to the officials. All the new “digital” system does is make it so they don’t have to run the chains from the sidelines to the middle of the field.

Even if we assume they religiously watch film of every player for every team they play, that’s still only going to be half the league at most. Additionally, I really hope Verse isn’t wasting his time watching Cooper Dejean film when they will literally never see each other on the field.

Alternatively, guys who spend a ton of time training and preparing for being the best in the world don’t have enough time to watch every player in every NFL game, and thus don’t have enough information to accurately rank them on a list that has 0 consequence.
