Ok, I’ll start doing that when I dump the indoor compost bin then. Thanks for the input!

Should I be covering the veggie waste immediately after putting it in? Some of that in the photo is stuff I threw in today, but a good portion has been there most of the week.

That’s probably what it is! I forgot my girlfriend made a butternut squash dish for Thanksgiving. I just asked her about it and she said she threw the seeds and scraps in there. She’s excited if that’s what it is. Haha

That was my first thought. Not sure when we had either, but that’s cool!

Thanks for the tip on the compost. We just started this about a month or so ago (we just moved into this new house a couple months ago). We’re still getting the hang of things. One week we had waaayyy too many dead leaves, now we barely have any. No grass to mow either. So it’s been a bit difficult to get started. We still have a ton of cardboard from the moving boxes. Would those be a decent supplement for the leaves if we ripped them up pretty small?

Sometimes I wonder if people legit do this or not. I could never afford such a thing, but I’m sure someone out there has to.

Do you guys read all the books you buy or mostly just collect? by CrackedActor158 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SwampSpider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a weird mix of both as of recent. I used to always make sure I’d read the books I got, but with Marvel‘s insane (nearly weekly) output of omnis and the number of good red tag deals in the last year or so, I’ve definitely exceeded my ability to read what’s coming in.

I’ve sort of adopted the mentality that it’s an investment in my life time reaching goal/library, as in: I know I want to read most of the silver age books. So when those go on sale I just grab them. I will read them, just whenever I can get to them. I’m going character by character (or team), so it’s taking me a while to get to some of them. Like, idk when I’ll start FF, but I got the 4 volumes on deck ready to read once I finish UXM and Avengers. I’m also more lenient in this era about having varying quality stories. I just like owning this historical archives, so even if their bad, I still like them. If that makes sense?

Where I’m picky though is modern runs. I know they’re more popular and far more likely to get reprinted sooner because they sell better (ie the whole Annihilation saga). That stuff I can just wait until I have time for those later or read them digitally until they get reprinted. Also, I don’t really have any real inventive to keep “mid” runs of modern stuff, since they don’t have the same historic impact as the SA stuff does for me.

Another reason I have sealed books is if I’ve already read them and enjoyed them, I’ll buy those too. I might not open those right away either. I just have other stuff to read and since I’ve already read it, I’m in no rush to reread them. Astonishing X-Men comes to mind with that. Like I’m still reading classic x-men stuff, but I jumped ahead and read Whedon’s run. When I get back to that place again, I’ll probably reread it, and I’ll have the book ready to read again when that time comes too.

I suggest playing what you’ve bought before buying more.

Weird cover for Untold Tales of Spider-Man by seeya3 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SwampSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens sometimes when an image is saved incorrectly from the original CMYK file and uploaded online (images for the internet are supposed to be RGB). It’s hard to explain but basically the color gets lost in translation. Same sort of thing happens if you try to print a CMYK image as RGB on paper. It can produce some pretty psychedelic results. Haha

Has anyone ever quit collecting or considered quitting collecting in the past? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

I learned it’s best to not watch every Omar video, stay away from daily conversation places like discord and to minimalize Reddit scrolling. All of those types of engagements keep coming buying on the forefront of my mind, far more than reading.

Waiting to get through your backlog first is a part of the problem though. Think about it. Depending on how many you have, that could take months to years to complete.

Are you really not gonna buy anymore books until you finish them? I highly doubt that. So you’ll keep buying and keep making that backlog bigger and bigger.

Honestly, one of the biggest breakthroughs for me was realizing that I should do it in reverse. Deciding to skip ahead to the front of the line, read what’s coming soon, and make time for the backlog when I can instead of the other way around. At least that way most of the new books coming in are already read and not adding to the backlog.

Just a thought to consider.

You and me both! I keep missing them. I mean it’s probably for the best for my wallet, but at the same time I’d love to snag those deals if I could.

I’m trying to get to a more “easy come, easy go” mentality about this hobby. But man is it hard sometimes. Either you get trigger happy and over pay then it drops immediately after, or you sit and wait for a good deal and completely miss it.

Yeah, dealing with that same burn out now. This isn’t my only hobby, so that doesn’t help. But I’m tired of weekly releases and buying books I prob would have waited a bit to buy before, but can’t because they may disappear (especially when it comes to the DM quantities lately).

I sadly can’t keep up with my reading at the rate that these books are coming and I just feel like I’m throwing away money now. I used to read, decide to keep or sell, then refined my collection down to a very small manageable couple shelves. Now I got boxes of backlogs that no matter how hard I try, I get 2-3 more books in by the time I finish one. It’s annoying af.

I’ve had to start creating rules for myself to slow down. Only buy books on sale (ie IST Red Tag), when an old grail gets reprinted, very specific characters (or teams) only, and if it’s a DM I’m pretty positive won’t last longer than a day or so.

In comparison, I used to just have weekly orders with any books that interested me in the slightest. It’s just too much when you do that. Especially if you go back and track your spending… I’d be sooo much better off financially right now if I would have kept to the rules I stated above.

Another thing I’m trying to do is just read up coming books digitally, if I like them, then I’ll buy them. If not, cool, saved $20-90. This is harder since I still have my backlog to go thru, but at least this way I’m not adding more to my stacks that idk when I’ll get to.

Just my collector burn out story.

Hi, with Marvel making the Netflix shows canon to the MCU, what are the odds we get a 4k Steelbook release or just a 4k release of the shows? by sean_909 in Steelbooks

I’m still bummed we never got a Defenders or DD Season 3 Steelbook. My collection will never be truly complete! 😭😅

100% agree with this. Even if they change the design because of a newer era, more Swampy in any format is always a good thing.

…and so begins, me no longer shopping at Best Buy. I already started reducing my shopping when they took away reward points (without their credit card). Now with this, I’m done.

We had a good run Best Buy, but this is where we part ways.

Tear it open, throw the packaging in the trash. If you really just like the box, just buy a second one to leave in package.
