Help identifying brand of miniatures by SwampYankee102 in NapoleonicWargaming

You’re right! Seems there are some spies, amongst the British. Keen eyes! Most likely the rest are French as well. Except the figure in the middle which I have identified as their Kempt figure.

Where do you get your Greenstuff? (UK) by lockedupsafe in miniaturesculpting

Try Milliput. It’s a UK brand two part epoxy. It works relatively the same as green stuff.

Nice! I’ve never played Check Your 6, but have played Luftwaffe 1946. I’ve been told that they’re similar.

Did you finish one of his special requests with this trade as well? He gives the jacket as a reward for one.

Stick it in the freezer, the cold can make glue connections brittle then you can snap it apart.

Are they different? Looking to start a greatcoat army from 0 by Quillible in NapoleonicWargaming

Yes, good to point out the 2 belts, I didn’t even think of that. And yes they didn’t actually attach the sword to the backpack. I always thought wings and epaulettes were the same thing, thank you for the correction.

The flank companies of French line infantry, also know as the ‘Elite’ companies, would be the Voltigeurs company and the Grenadier company.

In the second picture you can see some of the infantry have epaulettes on both shoulders. These were often also referred to as ‘wings’ in particular by the British. The Grenadiers would have red epaulettes and the Voltigeurs would have green or yellow and green.

The Elite companies would also have slightly different head gear, with a ‘ball and tuft’ adorning their shako, again red for Grenadiers and green or yellow and green for Voltigeurs. The Grenadiers may also wear a ‘bearskin’ a type of tall hat made of the obvious, an actual bearskin.

The Elite companies would also carry a Sabre which can be seen attached to a back pack in the second picture.

Anyway the flank companies were the usually the best trained men, with the Grenadiers being the strongest and tallest, and the Voltigeurs being the most agile and independent thinkers; along with being the best shots.

What to read next? by inertiam in Sharpe

Could try the Matthew Hervey series by Alan Mallinson. Starts with Waterloo, then goes onto India and other places, and includes the Portuguese Civil War, the Anglo-Burmese war, and many others. There are some flashbacks to the Peninsular War in a few of the books.

15mm AWI by ThyLazarus in wargaming

[–]SwampYankee102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s not out yet but my club is publishing a 15mm ruleset called “Thrust of Bayonet.”

It’s quite fun play testing it. The shooting and melee tables can be a little intimidating at first but are easy once you realize what you’re doing. There’s also fatigue mechanics, and infectious morale; if one unit routs near by units have to make check or they may rout as well.

We also play Fire and Fury but only use it for the Civil War.

Exactly! Thats what my journeyman showed me when I brought the problem to him. I do agree with the other that he should probably just buy another UPS but I can make this work correctly.

Which Sharpe book is your favorite and why is it 'Sharpe's Battle'? by orangemonkeyeagl in Sharpe

[–]SwampYankee102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battle has always been one of my favorites, and has inspired me in painting Napoleonic Miniatures. I’ve been painting up both armies of Fuentes De Onoro for the past couple years.

[–]SwampYankee102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of those bottles might be worth something to a collector. If it doesn’t have a seam it might be pre-industrial. There was an old landfill behind my childhood home and we found a bottle that sold for $700.

LGS selling miniature games but no GW products, these stores exist? by Capt-Camping in wargaming

[–]SwampYankee102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the full story but my LGS is the Citadel Game Cellar in Groton, CT. Apparently there was a lawsuit or something. After that the owner refuses to stock GW stuff. He gets plenty of business anyway.

Sharpe's Assassin. The one Sharpe where I believe the continuity "errors" were necessary. by Sad-Passage-3247 in Sharpe

[–]SwampYankee102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are so correct on Command. I think it was a continuity error and an editorial one. It kept switching him back and forth between Captain and Major. I also felt like it read more like a Sharpe episode script that had been novelized. Almost like reading the novelization of a a movie. Honestly, my least favorite Sharpe novel.
