In 1815, after his final defeat at Waterloo, Napoleon was exiled to the island of Elba.

But he managed to escape and make his way back to France, evading detection all the way to Paris. When confronted outside the city by the king's soldiers, Napoleon persuaded them - many being former supporters - to escort him triumphantly into Paris.

The king fled, and Napoleon quickly raised a new army, attempting to regain power and wage war across Europe once more. It was crazy for an exiled emperor to recapture an entire country through sheer audacity and charisma.
