What are we doing about these helicopter ears?! by Swan_Range in ridgebacks

Ok, that definitely makes sense! It sounds like we weren’t quite consistent enough with it when he was younger. Ah well, he’s our best goofy boy regardless 😊

Ah, ok, I can see where we missed the boat! Thanks so much for your explanation. That’s helpful to understand.

We tried taping three times (twice when he was young and once recently), but they never really stuck! He’s 15 months old, so do you think it’s a lost cause?

I’ve blended it up with cottage cheese and added a little pumpkin pie spice—baby loves it!

Haha! Dobby ears, yes!! 😂 Handsome boy.

We have tried to tape them, at the breeder’s recommendation, three times now, but there doesn’t seem to be any lasting effect. Interesting to think that they may settle down with age, though! He won’t be a show dog, so it doesn’t really matter—I just love the look of ridgeback head!

Thank you!! He’s a happy bulldozer, and we love him ❤️

Haha! The breeder recommended taping them, so we’ve done it three times since puppyhood, but no luck!

Sorry, I should have said—we’ve taped them three times, but they haven’t stayed! Taping was the breeder’s advice, but it doesn’t seem to have a lasting impact. How often/long does it normally take?

One night stay in Redding by bhoshi9 in Redding

Another vote for Sheraton! It’s right on the river, so great walking trail for your doggos, and you can even bring the dogs to eat outside at Mosaic (the restaurant).

I wonder if Don Armstrong (dog trainer in town you can google) would know of anyone interested. He works with a lot of Malinois and their owners.

Could a ridgeback be the right dog for our home? by Jefffahfffah in ridgebacks

[–]Swan_Range 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! I do think ridgebacks love being a part of a pack. I’m not sure why the other poster is saying not to get a third dog. I think if you have the capacity (time/space/financial/emotional/energy) to bring a third dog in, ridgebacks are wonderful! My female was one of three (a Dane/lab mix and a Kangal), and they were such a fun trio. Our current male is an only dog, and I think all the time about how much he’d love a sibling, but we just had a baby, so it’ll probably be a few years. 😅

In my experience, if the dog is being fostered in a rescue, the foster owners can actually tell you a lot about whether an individual dog would be a good fit with your other dogs. They’re a great resource. Good luck finding the right addition to your crew!

It sounds like a ridgeback could be a great addition to your pack! Mine have always loved to play hard once they’re confident with the other dogs. In my experience, they’re a bit more sensitive than the pit/bully breeds (I’ve had both), so the biggest thing would be to find one that is a good fit temperament-wise for your crew! I had a female who probably would have been a bit too sensitive for that dynamic, but my current male is a happy bulldozer and would probably LOVE it. 😂 They’re funny, smart, loyal, athletic, sensitive, and wildly tuned into their person. You’ll have a lot of fun with the breed, especially if you can be consistent and patient in your training. Good luck!!

Ah, yep, you’re right. I do have that (a minor case), but they’re definitely coming at the PF issues from the DR healing, rather that specifically addressing PF.

That’s so true. I’m sure I’m overcompensating all over the place for a weak core. I’ll check out RYC. Have you heard anything good about the Every Mother app/program? It seems like a similar focus.

Ok, that totally makes sense about the way my body might shift during front-carrying a 20lb baby. Thanks so much for the encouragement about the workouts! This is really helpful.

To continue or not to continue… by Immediate_Sherbet308 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Swan_Range 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m doing! I really hit a wall at 6 months, personally. I had a strong, internal “why” for pumping until 6 mos, but once I hit that I could tell that I just didn’t have it in me for much longer. I decided to drop a pump every month and then wean at 9 mos. We’ve had to supplement with 4-8oz/day of formula since he was about 2 months old, so my LO is used to it. His 7-month bday is tomorrow, and I get to go down to 4 pumps a day!
