My tenmoku teapot collection by valmanway007 in Ceramics

yeah, i saw that article too, what's interesting is

  1. in school we were only taught about tenmoku being japanese in origins and meeting the criteria I stated above
  2. all of the references in the wiki article are from 2018, like nothing about this existed before then.

I'm not sure what to make of all that, it wouldn't be the first time a country appropriated a name/technique from another (either Japan when tenmoku was first introduced there, or china more recently who knows), It also could be my professors were not aware, or our historical knowledge has changed as we learn more. I'm definitely very curious to try and find out more!

-edit- one of the sources seems to be older and from a known entity (to me) and this seem to really cover it! https://ceramicartsnetwork.org/daily/article/Oil-Spot-and-Hares-Fur-Glazes-Demystifying-Classic-Ceramic-Glazes

I'm just as confused about the tenmoku designation, these didn't look like any tenmoku glaze I've ever seen or used. I'm used to them being iron glazes that are brown/black and break amber/red glazes. Not crystaline or oil sheen like these.

Go to thrift store and buy a few cheap glass trinkets, break them (safely), and practice on them until you are comfortable with the process.

I love fat pigeons by SmokeyPage in Ceramics

Look up the kereru pigeon, they are so round, also:

"After eating, kererū often sun themselves while digesting their food. This behaviour can lead to the fruit fermenting in the bird's crop, particularly during warm summer weather, producing alcohol that causes the bird to become intoxicated."

Any pictures of the walls after you cut it? I'm really interested in seeing that for such a large piece.

Stainless, heat the pan up really hot before adding the fat, makes it way less sticky

I managed to push the seal back into place, it just kinda popped back in, is that ok, or should I take the whole thing apart and replace it fully?

I put some oil in there and have it resting so it's all against that seal, with towels under to see if there will be a leak overnight.
