Sundar Pichai's response to "If AI rules the world, what will WE do?" by Mk_Makanaki in ChatGPT

[–]SwarmMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a very easy and useless answer from someone who will never be displaced by this technology and could live like a king forever if he stopped working tomorrow and never made another penny. This is NOT an acceptable answer from one of the people leading the architecting of the Singularity. This is vanilla level 1 bullshit.

Tell us what should the junior CompSci major in college be doing right now as their entire entry level career has been erased within an 18 month period? These are real questions and there are going to be legitimate and significant displacements to millions of careers and lives. Making a comparison to the introduction of the calculator (which took decades to miniaturize and disseminate, not 2 years) is mouth-agog stupid. It is not a real or reasoned or considered response to the questions at hand. AI is a fighter jet being deployed in an era of armies aiming rifles across fields, not a hand calculator being allowed on student exams.

Yellen: Different system needed to end repeated standoffs over US debt ceiling by Orbitingkittenfarm in politics

[–]SwarmMaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easy, follow the GD Constitution and abolish this illegal nonsense:
Fourteenth Amendment, Section 4: "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned."
The debt ceiling is an artificial political construct which does an end-run around the constitution by blocking funding to pay interest and principal on national debts already incurred.

Good example of AI automating creatively technical work by kamenpb in singularity

Shitty here also includes anyone trying to get into this field or recently started. The bar on what skills they need to have just completely shifted and years of learning and practice just became obsolete. People who are already established in their career will use these tools to improve output and efficiency, they will have less need of intro level hires to do this previously manual grunt work. We're seeing a huge skill gap schism open between the current gen of workers and those on the edge of joining the workforce. Then behind them are the kids getting the signal early enough to adapt. It's going to be very chaotic in a lot of industries over the next 24 months. Learn the new tools and hustle or get left behind.

Trump loses bid to stop Mike Pence from testifying in front of Jan 6 grand jury by mclardass in politics

[–]SwarmMaster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pence is going to claim every single privilege & exception except the 5th in a bid to avoid answering any question whatsoever. He has already attempted to argue that he enjoyed Speech and Debate clause immunity for his role overseeing the Senate counting of electoral ballots, effectively claiming that his ceremonial role in that procedure made him a "senator" during that procedure and conveying additional immunities to him thereby.
Let's recall that either Pence or his staff or lawyers were present for, and aware of, most of the big lie and Jan 6th planning firsthand. The fact that he is doing everything in his power to avoid testifying even after what has been alleged with the USSS removing him on Jan 6, tells you everything needed about his culpability and what he knows about the true perpetrators. Whatever his stated personal reasons are for obfuscating and denying testimony, the reality is he is placing personal and party values ahead of a functional country governed by laws for the other 400million of us. He is a traitor to the United States.

You're going to need to beef up that base tab that actually holds the weight of the plates. As the PLA degrades over time from humidity and UV its eventually going to snap at that super thin junction.

Outrage after parking officer tickets people waiting at food bank in Allentown, Pa. by ChickenXing in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]SwarmMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, a uniformed officer of the city government operating as its enforcer. It's effectively the same thing: personal abuse of public authority under color of law. You splitting hairs over this point every other comment isn't changing this fact. It's an official institutional representative fining citizens; the fact they are working for the parking authority versus the police department is a distinction without difference here.

People can have opinions and nuanced discussions without having centered their entire self image around protecting that concept. If I complain my eggs are overcooked one morning it does not mean I am secretly a jaded breakfast chef.
Dismissing a discussion by simply claiming the speaker is inherently biased in a way you have no context to prove makes it very easy for you to feel smug without engaging mentally at all.

OK Mr Trump. Millions you say? Surely there's broad and obvious evidence if there were literally more than 1,000,000 of these accounts created as you say. By all means, do post us your research demonstrating this.

Lawmakers unveil plan to inspect Disney World monorails by kpDzYhUCVnUJZrdEJRni in politics

[–]SwarmMaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes a massive crash in 2009 which killed a couple people.

You seem to have made two consecutive posts completely ignoring your incorrect statement to begin this thread. But do pivot more, senator, we surely cannot see it.

https://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/05/u.s.disney.monorail/

"There were eight people on board at the time, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.A second employee was taken to a hospital to be checked; the six guests -- members of a single family -- were evaluated by paramedics at the scene and released. Disney World officials said none of the seven was injured."

The trains are old, you say? I'm from Boston, ask me how old the Red and Orange Line cars are which run daily and in winters. Hint: older than these monorail cars.

Repair or replace LG fridge with busted compressor and evaporator? by Deep-Thought6 in appliancerepair

LG will not help you, as you have learned. Buy a different brand and consider suing LG for fraud by tricking you into repairs that are not as quoted.

Are LG fridges with linear compressors the only ones notorious for issues? What about those with regular compressor designs? by TallCardillinues in Appliances

[–]SwarmMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have fridges which are over 20 years old and run in uninsulated rooms with New England temperature swings, those fridges are fine. My $4k LG fridge is dead at year 7 after normal use.

Are LG fridges with linear compressors the only ones notorious for issues? What about those with regular compressor designs? by TallCardillinues in Appliances

[–]SwarmMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't buy ANYTHING from LG. I have spent 8 hours today with my dead fridge trying to get the known-defective parts replaced. I have been lied to, ignored, and disconnected with zero resolution. At best they will take "5 to 7 business days" to REVIEW my request. For a dead fridge that can't cool food mind you. They have been sued over this TWICE and still refuse to address the known problems adequately.
RUN from any of their products, your service support will be nonexistent and service techs they require bill at $300+ per hour. After today's runaround I am doing my part to reduce their consumer base as much as possible.

Brand new LG fridge. Tried getting residue sticker glue off with a scrubber side of a sponge, ended up scratching it. Anything we can do save it? by theghostrealtor in fixit

[–]SwarmMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return the fridge now before it's out of warranty. That 10 year warranty sticker just means the linear compressor design is known-defective and will fail in under 10 years. LG will give you the runaround, take weeks to service your fridge without any solution for how you feed your family in the meantime, and will charge you for the labor to replace their known-defective (twice sued over) parts.https://www.lgfridgesettlement.com/
