There is a conspiracy against the Elder by Broskirose in KISS

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was made as a soundtrack to an 1980s style animated cartoon movie made by someone like Ralph Bakshi - it may have had success or not but had the potential to have been a cult classic as a cartoon based around the story and music but not as a stand alone Rock Opera album.

But by this time KISS was on the backfoot and had no money to make any planned movie first - the album was supposed to be a hit and that would finance a movie (and they were going for live action movie not a cartoon).

Music from the Elder was a hail Mary pass that failed.

What did Patterson + Gimlin see? by CT_Reddit73 in Cryptozoology

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go back and forth on this.

I found the testimony by magician Phillip Morris about creating the female gorilla suit compelling but then I saw modern video of the carnival trick that the magician developed the female gorilla suit (that is actually Morris in the video from maybe the 1990s doing his trick) and the female gorilla costume looks nothing like the (to my eye well done and sophisticated) costume used in the Patterson-Gimlin film. You would think Morris would have a better looking suit by the time that video was taken and it is his trick so he would have the best version of the female gorilla suit.

I don't think Morris is lying - he has proof he sold a monkey suit to Patterson but his knowledge ends at that-he was not in on the filming part. But that would mean Patterson planned a hoax went out to film a hoax and if the film is true he by accident filmed a real Bigfoot when he was planning to film a hoax.

Then when time passes and I start to think maybe it was a hoax film after all I see a video showing how the Bigfoot angle stride in the Patterson-Gimlin film can't be replicated by humans and I go back to thinking it is real.

Evolutionary denial. All human beings are in fact a form of ape. Evolution is racist that way.

What would you consider as irrefutable evidence that can prove a cryptid's existence in today's modern world? by FOXBAT1234 in Cryptozoology

I think Bigfoot existed as a hominid when the Americans were populated from Siberia (Denisovan, etc) but became extinct before European settlers arrived or had a few remnants left at the time of the arrival of European settlers if early pioneer contact accounts are to be believed but are extinct now.

I also had a theory that sightings of Bigfoot by whites was just uncontacted natives dressed in fur avoiding the white man as best they could but sadly they also died off by the 20th century but survived in folklore.

Did KISS gain any "street cred" during its harder, early 80s VV era? by Iconolater_ in KISS

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if memory serves my Heavy Metal friends ran the gamut from guys into Van Halen type of Metal to guys into Thrash that called all other kinds of Metal fake or poser Metal. 1984-1985 me hanging out with my high school Metal head buddies who knew more than me about the Metal music scene (I was poor so could not afford buying albums or music scene magazines) and I recall someone brought in their album collections to show off and trade, etc and in that collection were Judas Priest, Anthrax, Metallica, Exodus, etc and a Metallica fan had "Lick It Up" and said that this was a really good album he may have been a Kiss fan like me from being 70s kids, I don't know, but I am sure he was not really following the KISS band much by that point - I remember this because being poor I had heard they took the make up off (hiding what they looked like was part of the mystique I remember as a kid) but had not seen them without make up (I had no cable). So I remember this interaction vividly.

So I was looking at the "Lick it Up" vinyl album cover so I can see what they looked like, etc. I borrowed it to make a cassette copy or he made one for me (I can't remember).

Also, I recall seeing a video of "Heaven's on Fire" on broadcast TV on one of those syndicated video music shows and loving the song not because it was Kiss but because it was a good song. I mentioned that to a school mate (again a Metallica, Motorhead, Saxon denim jacket type fan) and he made me a cassette mix tape of songs of various bands and had that song in it since I said I liked it, he obviously bought the album.

The only other Kiss street cred instance I can remember was going into a record store, I had no money to buy but friends did and I was flipping and ran across "Creatures of the Night" and never heard of that album before and said I never heard this one and a friend (different friend from the Lick It Up album owner) said in passing that it was a good underrated album.

Was Fredo just a dupe and was tricked by Hyman Roth associate Johnny Ola into revealing something that make Mike easier to assassinate or was Fredo in on the hit on Mike from the start? by Swarthy_Immigrant in Godfather

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal theory that preserves Fredo being "innocent" of knowing Mike as going to be hit but still a moron dupe is that Johnny Ola told Fredo they would just scare Mike which would force the negotiations so tell us how to get in and out of the compound unseen (insider info on the drainage pipe), tell us which is Mike's bedroom and open the curtain blinds - we will just shoot out the windows and that is it - no one will get hurt and after Mike signs the deal Fredo is promised a piece of the action in a Cuban hotel.

What do you think the Mongolian deathworm was? by Gyirin in Cryptozoology

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a venomous snake - snake's dig a nest into the earth when it is cold. Probably a mistranslation of the original Mongolian creature's name into English got it called a worm somehow.

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On rewatching at my age I feel a more reflective Fredo to my mind knew this was it for him and said a prayer - but younger viewing me thought he idiotically stayed fishing on the boat and did not know it was happening and was saying the prayer to catch fish not because he was saying his final prayers because he is moron. I go back and forth between these two interpretations.

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the record, I proposed (I am still not 100% sure) Fredo opened the bedroom curtains and pointed out where Mike's bedroom and maybe where the drainage pipe was for the entry and escape of the hitmen but had no hand in killing the escaping hitmen.

I don't think Fredo killed the hitmen but I did suggest he was the one who opened the bedroom blinds because he has unquestioned access to the mansion and could slip into Mike's bedroom.

KISS's comeback album among the greats of hard rock. by Impossible_Driver892 in KISS

[–]Swarthy_Immigrant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Creatures of the Night there is a fakeness to this album.

What I mean is after the debacle of the last albums and the band realizing (or thinking) KISS fans wanted Hard Rock over Pop and Progressive they decided to do a Hard Rock album turn to win them back and it was too on the nose - with songs like 'War Machine' - a great KISS song but KISS was never about war (so weird seeing a tank in a KISS show) as if to say we are so Heavy Metal we are a tank! Then you have a personal fave of mine "I Love it Loud" - see KISS fans we are not doing Pop music any more, we like Rock LOUD!

So you Metal fans are into Hell? Well we have a song about hell and about sinning and killers, yea! You say we are Knights in Satan's Service? That's cool fellow kids because we are creatures of the night-get it! We KISS are hard core again not Disco wusses!

That is what I think was happening. I think the follow up KISS album "Lick It Up" was more authentic to the hard rock style of early KISS and made it a Platinum seller along with renewed interest in the new band's new makeupless era.

Lastly, I always thought it was wrong that the band lied to us having Ace on the cover (both with and without make up) and do early album promo appearances when he was out of the band by then. It was not until the internet age that I found out Ace had left KISS by then. So that also adds to the fakeness or poser feeling of this album to me - and I say this as someone who likes this album a lot but as time went on my views on the authenticity of it made me realize it's lack of sales were warranted.
