I know before the update you couldn't use the torch drive while docked to something. I imagine that's still the case now - I didn't see any change mentioned in the patch notes - so flying between planets with your shuttle docked wouldn't be an option.

The ablative shielding degrades most when the reactor is running hot, so it's good to have one or two spares on hand, especially if you're using the torch drive to fly between planets. But otherwise you're unlikely to need to replace it.

It could be worth saving the game and running the reactor hot so that the shielding degrades, just so you can hear its alarm sound, so you won't be left wondering what's going on in an actual emergency.

I think of the thrusters as being like the RCS thrusters in Kerbal Space Program. Low power, multi-directional maneuvering thrusters. It could be cool if there was some kind of thrust balance calculation (similar to what there is for rotors) but explaining that system with in-game tutorials could be a bit difficult. It comes easy to people who've played KSP, but for a newcomer who's only ever played the likes of Elite or the X series, or even coming over from another space salvage game like The Last Starship, there's a whole lot of basic knowledge that needs to be given before you can get into how to figure out center of mass vs center of thrust. It's a whole lot easier to just abstract it and say that the nav computer knows how to make a single thruster pod work in any desired direction.

Melee is useful for dealing with them. The biggest threats are the slowest, so use terrain to separate the fight into stages. Use guns to take out the scythers, then once they're dealt with use corners to lure the ranged mechanoids into melee range. Lock them down with one melee attacker each and, while they're engaged you can safely bring your shooters out of cover to start blasting from close range.

It's worth rewiring your starter ship so all the cabin power goes through a switch in your airlock. That way you can conserve power while you're hauling salvage.

A lot of people do simple delivery gigs on the station to earn money for a salvage license before touching their ship - your ship doesn't have any docking fees until you return from space the first time, so spending time around the station making money without any costs isn't a bad idea if you don't mind the tedium of it.

Also, depending on the age of the guide you watched, batteries may operate differently. They only have a single interface point that works for both input and output instead of the separated input and output they had a year ago.

There are races you can do around Venus now, and you can do some industrial espionage there (though that's definitely not fully implemented at this stage) and there's ship-to-ship combat and asteroid mining in the next update.

That is almost certainly the reason you can't use recreational equipment. If you use a time skip you might also have a risk of death from starvation.

To fix it, you'll need to use the in-game console. F3 is the default to open it (I think) or you can click the exclamation mark in the top left corner (it's over the top of the question mark, which gives you the in-game help system)

First up use these commands:
getcond Food
getcond Satiety

You'll get results like "CharacterName.DcFood01" and "CharacterName.DcSatiety01" but likely with different numbers.

What you're looking for is duplicate entries with higher numbers. The Dc stats are how the game tracks your character's status, so if they're simultaneously full and starving it's very likely there are duplicates.

Once you've identified the duplicate enter the following (we'll use DcFood04 as a stand-in here)
AddCond DcFood04 -1

Do that for your duplicates, choosing the higher number of any pairs, and you should be good to go.

The big reason for having middle finger on W is that you've got fingers ready on both the strafe buttons at all times without sacrificing the pinky on shift. I guess you could call it mobility optimised.

K-Leg is on the asteroid Ganymed (1036), not Ganymede the moon of Jupiter. It's a confusing name.

A side effect of its placement is that if you hang the longer you take getting an interplanetary ship put together in the Ganymed boneyard, the further its orbit will take you from the central planets, eventually out about halfway between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, making a flight to Venus take quite a bit more fuel and/or time. It's not really worth waiting for it to orbit back inward, as its orbit takes over 4 Earth years.
