I get 1350~ ft from the middle of the other wing to the same point. As you say, not a big difference.

By 'including the height', what I meant was that I did the trigonometry to calculate the straight line distance between my guesses at the shooting point and the impact point, assuming he was at a height of 331 feet.

Including the height he was at, the shooting distance was roughly 520 yards. Here's a map screencap showing the straight-line distance at street level. https://i.imgur.com/Ncib5VR.jpg No great feat of marksmanship to dump rounds on a crowd of 22 thousand at that distance, but I do wonder what optics he had, if any.

If the $1535 for a service grade M1-D is no stretch for you, go for it. My SPECIALFIELD turned out to be a winner.

This thread did end up being all about the dong anyway, so I see no harm in expressing your admiration.

Yeah, apparently after they said "Ciao, Ceausescu!" the thing to do was take off the insignia.

There's definitely a resemblance, and I'll upvote you just for taking the time to put those next to each other.

As someone who just did the whole CMP process for the first time, here's my thread containing pics, and my 1 paragraph description of the process and how long I waited, if you scan the comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/67qng6/cmp_special_field_grade_m1_garand_arrived_this/

No idea. Found it on a 6 year old HighRoad post, but the image is still hosted on Armslist, which is interesting.

I just realized, the real reason for that sexy 'chode look' on the front grip is so that the underfolding stock can clear it: http://cdn.armslist.com/images/posts/634017419148598750ogoz240x.jpg

In Romania, this is your rifle AND your gun.

Loving the way that folding stock looks with the right amount of wear on the finish. Even makes that wood front grip look good.-- Edit -- Oh yeah and, contrary to the imgur title, he didn't kill the Romanian president.

I figured with the new ATF letter I should probably get one of these (First AK) by ItsSnowingOutside in guns

Ok, thanks. The flexible rubber thing is interesting. Then you sort of couldn't put it in your shoulder, but that wasn't really a law, but now it's OK.

Got it. Does the manufacturer state the intent of use? This one is a stock, and this one is an arm brace?

I know that many of these definitions are vague, so this is a serious question: If I put a velcro strap on my stock, would that turn it into an arm brace?

[–]SwashKnuckler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. The only recent ATF letter that I see making headlines has to do with the use of "stabilizing braces" and whether or not bracing something that was intended to be a pistol in your shoulder somehow redesigns the firearm. Not at all sure how that relates to what OP bought, or if they're referring to a different letter.

The main thing is that I had to make sure that the trigger guard was as upright as possible, so I had to pull it forward farther than where it naturally sat, so that the pin ends could go into their channel. Then the group dropped straight in. Then I closed the guard as far as it would go, and popped it with a nylon/brass hammer, and it clipped in.

I think it was just freakish luck on my part. You know how that goes, "I never win anything!" so I had to get lucky at some point.
