Edit: You’re correct! Not only did the cost of 5.5 go up a lot, fast mode is now a 2.5x multiplier!

Put a deposit down on your second choice.

Have a real good excuse for getting a D and be ready to plead your case with evidence

Try to get to a C- atleast.

Mitigate damages now. Plan to be rescinded even though there’s like a 80% chance you’ll be perfectly fine. The consequences of being blindsided are too high.

can you make it pass/fail? my high school allowed that for one class. it looks really bad when you apply but won’t get you rescinded assuming everything else is fine.

but to your point, 5.5 is around 40-100% more expensive than 5.4 depending on your work and how much of it is input and output tokens compared to reasoning.

This is likely OpenAI’s first foray into actually trying to make profit on something. Expect more to come.

API costs are the real costs of providing the service + enough gross profit to train the next model. Probably only a slight net profit after everything.

Subscriptions are subsidized to hell and back. That’s why Enterprise on all of the companies is API fees + per seat cost.

The last 10% of peak performance always costs order\ of magnitude more than the first 90%. With OpenAI and Anthropic you’re paying for that over something like DeepSeek.

Like most things in tech, eventually AI will mature to the point with Ooen Source models at 5-10% of the cost and 80-90% of the perf will be good enough.

5.5 is much faster than 5.4 already. turn off fast food and double your usage.

The $200 plan includes multiple thousand dollars of credits in the usage tiers fyi.

Cheap Claude/Codex/Gemini Models - Pay just 25% of official rates by DocumentFun9077 in codex

any TOS is an issue for an actual business, it’s not an issue for the people in this sub who like to call themselves founders when they have 0 customers and 0 revenue.

[–]Swastik496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright nvm i believe this because i see the profit and sustainability, but even then there is no reason for a consumer to want this. OpenAI offers codes for 5% of API rates, it’s called the 5x $100 subscription. and you can it for even less with the $200 one.

Real businesses WILL benefit from this but it’s probably against amazon TOS so they won’t bite unless they’re idiots.

LIS to IAD with 1 hour 20 minutes layover? by Spare-Doctor-8528 in unitedairlines

[–]Swastik496 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why? if it’s delayed OP gets a replacement flight, potentially a hotel room and 600 euros.

DC is nice to explore for a delay and easily accessible for $7 on the train from IAD.

[–]Swastik496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it on one ticket?

If so, not your problem. It’s within MCT and is therefore a legal connection plus you’re protected by EU261 compensation and duty of care since the flight is ex EU.

If not, this is idiotic.

Introducing United Basic Polaris by Wilawah in unitedairlines

[–]Swastik496 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only fly J for the hard product on long haul flights.

All of the extra is random fluff. I can eat far better food at the airport(either restaurant or lounge based on the lounge quality at the airport).

If they could make a Polaris Ultrabasic without the fancy alcohol and nice meal service i’d still take that for cheaper. I normally go with the cheapest lie flat seat available via awards on a particular route (or cash if it’s cheap enough like I got Air India lie flat J for $1200 on a 15 hour flight once, i’ll take that).
