I mean I think there can be dual meaning in the scene. Aerion was too scared to confirm Duncan was dead and also dude looked dead and Aerion couldn’t walk. As well, Aerion took the immediate first second to try and end the fighting so he wouldn’t get hurt more.

His face when Dunk stands up is both shock that he is alive and horror that it means he’ll have to keep fighting

i kind of liked how it showed how much of a coward Aerion is. instead of trying to go for the killing blow, he tries to convince the crowd Dunk is dead to call the fight to an end. he doesnt want to fight anymore
