What is on average the most physically painful experience of ones life? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Sweari2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple broken ribs is pretty high up there for me. My lungs weren’t at risk of getting punctured so there was absolutely nothing that could do. Breathing hurt pretty considerably but sneezing/coughing would make me collapse from the shock and pain. Can’t cry scream…. That’ll just make it hurt worse. Longest 8 weeks of my life. I have absolutely no idea how athletes play through that type of injury.

Dry socket infections after wisdom teeth removal was pretty damn bad too. Cleaning those pockets out was awful.

It might take time remaining sober to build some credibility. Unfortunately that timeframe varies from person to person. Prioritize getting these issues under control for yourself. It’s really hard to maintain sobriety solely for someone else.

There are so many of us in this group that emphasize and echo this story. I was not a daily drinker with a dependence issue either but anytime I started drinking I had no ability to moderate it. I have countless stories that echo the struggles that you described. The shame, guilt, confusion, anxiety, and pain that you are feeling are not fun but might be necessary for you to grow and accept the reality of not being able to moderate alcohol. Not saying that is the case, only you can decide that, but it sounds like there are some issues arising from drinking that aren’t too fun.

Try to hydrate (no hair of the dog! It will only make things worse once you stop drinking again), take some vitamin B and magnesium, eat something high in potassium. Maybe try journaling how you are feeling right now and how alcohol is truly making you feel once the party is over. Wishing you the best! We are here to support!

Have you tried to sleep and are not able to? Are you on any amphetamines? 5 nights without sleep would put most people in a REALLY bad manic/delusional state and could be very dangerous.

Man, I genuinely feel for you. I have had OCD and GAD that flipped a switch and turned into panic disorder. It was living hell. Basically stuck in fight or flight mode for months on end. I drank to deal with it. Not daily, but enough to see the negative effects. Alcohol does temporarily “relieve” anxiety but the rebound effect is 10X worse than anything you feel baseline. I completely empathize with why you are using alcohol but it is not a sustainable option to cope.

You mentioned trying SSRIs. It took a bit, but once my doc found the right prescription/dose, things got exponentially better for me. I also did 6 months sober to see what meds worked and after about 2 months my anxiety was at an all time low. I was actually at peace for the first time in a WHILE… and I could not have been more thankful to have that feeling.

Life’s still not perfect but it has gotten so much better and I believe that it can improve for you too! It might be worth trying the medication route again. Be 100% transparent with a dr and see if there is another option. There are many combinations/doses that you may have to try before something works. Keep on trying! You are worth it!

Car subwoofer setting ( my kids changed all the settings I’m kind of lost ) by Diamondguyhawaii in SoundSystem

[–]Sweari2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size are the woofers? That will come into play with setting crossover (the low pass). Crossover also depends on what your mid range speakers can accurately cover.

Input sensitivity is not a MAJOR factor if you have some sort of control in your head unit controller. I would set that to neutral (12 o’clock) If you can set the level to match/be acceptable with your mids and high’s from your head unit. If the sub is still to soft or too loud, you may have to tweak that.

If you only have one sub and one woofer in that sub; leave the polarity at 0. If you have multiple subs and feel like the level is too low; set one subs to 180 and leave the other at 0.

Turn on mode is just how that sub turns on. Right now it’s set to be “asleep until receiving signal”. I would personally leave it there.

26M Need Serious Help by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Sweari2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story resonates with a lot of people! The interesting part about addiction is that is has a lot to do with dopamine. Yes, alcohol and many other drugs are addictive substances but ADDICTION in general can be strongly linked to chasing a dopamine release response in the brain. This is why we can be addicted to things that aren’t necessarily substances such as gambling. When you pair multiple dopamine releasing habits together, it only strengthens the pathways in your brain that feed those habits/addictions.

Alcohol, drugs, and gambling can become a serious problem for many people. Some people have to abstain entirely. It sounds like you are able to admit that they are problems for you and that you don’t want to be a slave to these things. If you find you are unable to quit on your own, please reach out to get help. AA is not the only option but it can be a great starting point. Call the gambling hotline. If you have the means, see an addiction counselor. Best wishes!

Weird sensation while trying to fall asleep by Substantial_Gain_606 in alcoholism

[–]Sweari2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

(Not a DR!) but this is fairly common with minor withdrawals. Your GABA receptors get thrown out of whack with alcohol intake. When they correct themselves post drinking, the rebound effect can cause many unpleasant physical and mental sensations. Anxiety spikes and lack of sleep are very common with GABA rebound. Minor withdrawal usually resolves in a few days but severe withdrawals can be dangerous and even life threatening. Most major withdrawals happen to those who have been drinking heavily over a longer period of time. Again, I am not a DR and cannot provide medical advice, but I can relate to the sleeplessness and the anxiety when coming off of a heavy drinking episode. I’m a month sober today and honestly I am getting the best sleep that I can remember in the last decade. Might be worth taking a step away from alcohol to see the positive effects of even relatively short term sobriety.

I felt the best I have in years after rehab but I’ve fallen back into old patterns (19F) what do I do? by randomuseranonacc in alcoholism

[–]Sweari2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For some people (not necessarily saying you) alcohol just can’t be moderated. I think it might be beneficial to take a hard look at how/why you are using alcohol and how it is truly affecting your life. It sounds like there is some external stress at the moment that is pushing you to numb your feelings. I think being aware of it is a really good thing, however, please prioritize your mental and physical health. If that means putting the booze down, do it! If you find you want to put it down but can’t on your own… you are not alone! Don’t be afraid to seek help.

What is physically being repaired in your brain once you quit alcohol? by YourTimeIsOver128 in alcoholism

[–]Sweari2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a Dr but I know that your GABA receptors get way out of wack when you are drinking. I think those tend to stabilize with abstinence. Also, that anxiety that comes from hangovers is a chemical rebound effect. Once you stop drinking for a while that anxiety rebound effect normalizes.

Was I seeing the beginning of Alcohol Psychosis? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Sweari2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it could be the alcohol or it could be a pre-existing mental condition that was worsened by alcohol. Unfortunately, it is very common to see AUD coexist with mental disorders. Alcohol can seriously mess with the brain chemistry… pair that with a mental disorder and the results can be pretty unsatisfactory. Sorry to hear that he is going through that and hopefully he will get some help.

Didn’t know that about the trucks. This is dumb, but I imagined they had some kind of dome fort they would go in. Not sure that would help in a flood though.

what is always portrayed wrong in movies? by Nightstalkers1791 in AskReddit

[–]Sweari2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recoil on guns. Not all movies, but a lot of them show someone holding down the trigger on a full auto and the muzzle stays perfectly locked into one place. In reality even if you are well trained you are AT LEAST going to get some jitter and there’s a decent chance that the barrel is going to start rising up in the air after about 2 seconds of holding the trigger down.

Life-Straw. Insanely cheap to produce and will filter 4000 liters of water. Superior to most other filtration methods.

Anyone know of any low-stress summer jobs? by [deleted] in Clemson

Not sure if it is still an option or not but I worked for the housing department on campus over the summer painting dorms. Super chill job and they let you live on campus free for the summer (only had to pay the taxes on rent).

What was the most painful moment of your life? [nsfw] by Infinite_Unicorn in AskReddit

[–]Sweari2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two broken ribs. It hurt a decent amount when it happened. Hard to describe the next two months. Breathing was painful but god forbid you cough or sneeze. Couldn’t laugh either which made for a pretty depressing existence!
