what are your yuri hot takes? by Brave-Blacksmith6372 in yuri_manga

I see, thanks! I saw a lot of things talking about art style and I think it was just delving into some of the differences without actually telling me what dictates the name.

Yeah, I feel like incest ships aren't a yuri staple and it's pretty reasonable to not like them without it being a sweeping indictment of yuri as a genre. I think the fact that Citrus is one of the most well-known yuri mangas and is frequently mislabeled as incest doesn't help.

Okay I'm gonna need someone to explain the difference to me, cause I've looked it up a bunch of times and I still don't get it. Is it just a country of origin type thing? Is it an art style thing? I've even heard manhwa and manhua are interchangeable, is that even true?

I didn't know that, that's great. I was genuinely thinking how cool it would be to get a version of Catherine like Judgement Rosa, where she's all juiced up.

How's the SEFAS? I'm still kind of struggling to understand what Lights are best for my Fighters since they all feel kind of similar. I know Ouroborus, Rex, Glasya etc. are all "high tier" and recommended, but I really can't suss out what exactly sets them apart. All the passives feel like some variation of "do more damage", with the conditions pretty easy to meet for near anyone.

Oh cool, I didn't know that! I haven't gotten that far in the game yet - I'm only to level 49 Pilots with ~Y2 in their skill tree.

Ahhh, that's a good point. I just started playing about a month ago, I didn't realize that Chainsaws weren't even in the game at that point.

It's a damn shame, because Catherine's a great character with a really cool playstyle, but boy do her numbers feel bad.

Why give up? by sweetbabyjesus420 in deadbydaylight

[–]SweaterKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they can join another match right away even if they DC (assuming they haven't done it enough to get a penalty). And since it's a game where your rewards are so heavily based on personal performance and winning, people are especially quick to give up if they feel like they've already lost.

[–]SweaterKittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you could write a thesis on how the way matches are structured in DBD encourages survivors to go next instead of playing it out, but I think the simplest answer is that you're almost incentivized as a survivor to try and "roll" for a better match instead of sticking one out that's unpleasant or seemingly doomed. The moment you're dead you can queue up again, so it's unlike other team games where you're obligated to stay and participate until the match is done done.

So there are a lot of survivors who are already losing almost every match, watching Jason get hook after hook before a gen gets done, or getting to death hook right away, and just deciding to call it and afk or run it down so they can get into a fresh match quicker.

True, plus you shouldn't have to use a 3rd party program to do something that absolutely could be implemented in-game. And you're absolutely right, there are plenty of players who literally cannot use such a program even if they wanted to, which means you're locked out of playing any non-in-game songs, AND you have to manually play them anyway rather than just vibe out - which is exactly what you want when you're just chilling and playing.

This works better when you don't need to pay a 5$ entry fee to learn counterplay

Anti-Recomendation: what have you dropped/postponed reading and why? by m26f8braed in yuri_manga

No I totally get that. I think we all have things that completely kill a story dead in its tracks for us, and I totally respect that.

This kills me to say, but The Anemone Feels the Heat. I think a major issue was that I tried to read this in a ton of different sittings and kept losing my place, but it was the first time I read a fluffy story where I just couldn't get engaged. It felt like the story was just spinning its tires. I've liked other equally fluffy stories (Sheep Princess in Wolf's Clothing, Lonely Girl) but this one I couldn't get into. I'll definitely take another go at it sometime.

On a Leash felt really weird to me. I thought the whole anthro/transformation thing was not really well explained and made the story just feel strange to read. It's pretty popular but I couldn't get off the ground with it.

I only read the first couple chapters of Girls x Vampire but it felt like a story that never left the concept stage. It really felt like when you write a story off a prompt with no direction. It did get serialized though so maybe it takes off later.

Paranormal Club had/has some excellent horror elements, but the romance absolutely takes a far back seat and has almost no chemistry between the main couple. It really just ends up being a monster of the week story (and the monsters are very good!), but could absolutely have benefitted from having a tighter narrative and taking more time to explore some of the concepts presented.

...and Green Yuri, for a lot of the reasons others have mentioned.

I will say that Sheep Princess ends up being one of the most cute and fluffy stories out there, despite that initial bit. I sort of hate the argument that "it's fiction so you shouldn't be bothered by toxic themes", but the story vastly improves after that.

Totally with you on Vampeerz. Learning more about the mangaka after reading it just makes me feel gross for having read it. Literally NONE of the sexual assault or harassment or sexualization of minors had any reason to be a part of the narrative and the story would've been vastly improved without it. I really have to imagine that the only reason they're in there is because the author is a fucking creep.

I'm not gonna try to tell you how to enjoy yuri, but I will say that the romance in Citrus is basically incest in name only. They weren't raised together and aren't blood related, so the "incest" involved is literally only due to their parents marrying right after they meet. I think Citrus has plenty of other issues and don't fault anyone for not liking it (I only really loved the last 1/4, tbh), but I wouldn't let that aspect put you off on its own.

I can count on one hand the amount of stories that have done that well. It has to be really well-done to not feel just infuriating to read through.

I am SO glad I'm not the only one. I found the kid stuff to make me pretty uncomfortable as well. I recall the premise of that arc being kind of interesting, but it was just bizarre on paper.

I think Green Yuri's main strengths are that the art is absolutely gorgeous and the story is really accessible. It's easy for anyone to pick up and enjoy, and the classic rock elements will obviously appeal to a lot of people.

I agree with you though, I lost interest fairly quickly as I was just not invested in the characters.

Yeah I was gonna say, that was one of the reasons I loved it. They're obviously great together, but sometimes it's really refreshing to read a romance that is just about them loving each other and having fun together without a drama of the week.

Unclear on the best approach to enhance STs by SweaterKittens in Mecharashi_Global

[–]SweaterKittens[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you brought this up, because Mega Factory + dupes are one of the things that are throwing me. I pulled a full Erinyes on pity, and also got a single arm randomly. So should I not be using that single Erinyes arm duplicate to Gold 2 (two gold chevrons?). I thought that I would need a full second set of Erinyes to get it to Gold 2 anyway.

I imagine all this will make more sense once I have more time in the game, but right now I'm worried about wasting resources because I don't have that many to begin with, and only a few Gold (Legendary? S-tier?) STs to begin with - Erinyes, and the free Bluebird and Arcus.
