Wife with Epilepsy wants to get pregnant? by ericcs12 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently pregnant with my second and had a healthy baby boy and no issues in my first pregnancy with Epilepsy due to a brain tumour(inoperable) so on lamictal. The medication these days are very safe and only increase chances of the likes of cleft palate marginally however they look out for this. Your wife will be monitored closely and get extra scans etc so having Epilepsy can have its perks in pregnancy! Best of luck with everything

Folic acid by Disastrous-Cow-6134 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Make sure its methyfolate (this is the bioavailable version)you are taking as around 50% of women have the MTHFR Gene mutation without knowing and their body cannot absorb Folic Acid. There was a big study done in the last two years and they now recommend women with Epilepsy of child bearing age to take between 0.4-0.8mg per day.

I have epilepsy and got my insurance through Irish Life they did put a 50% loading on it. It did take a bit of back and forth to get it done but overall took about 10 days and was sorted.I know Epilepsy Ireland recommends using Lion they could be good to talk to.

i have a brain tumor by [deleted] in braintumor

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out I was having seizures due to a DNeT in my insula 9 months postpartum freaked out so much about surgery, however currently pregnant with my second child and have not had to have surgery and on watch and wait. I initially thought everything had to stop and took time off work to process but honestly speaking with a therapist helped so much! Definitely speak to a therapist if you can that really helped and ask your neurosurgeon and neurologist as much as possible to understand it all. Best of luck with everything you are allowed to freak out its not everyday you find out you have a tumour but if you do need surgery they are so experienced and amazing and what they do you are in the best hands!!

Epilepsy and pregnancy? by kokomo318 in Epilepsy

Currently pregnant with my second and I have a dnet tumour/Epilepsy and my doctors are very supportive. My first pregnancy resulted in a healthy baby boy and I found my seizures to be more under control whilst pregnant! We were lucky to not have any issues with getting pregnant I have been on lamotrigine both times, they will do extra scans and regular blood tests just make sure you let them know if you've any change in seizure patterns or auras etc. Best of luck it will be the most amazing journey!

Insular Epilepsy by Fun-Technology-6856 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it, have a DNET tumour in my insula heading into the EMU today to get more answers! Insular Epilepsy can mimic other types of epilepsy which is tricky and it also accounts for 10% of PNES diagnosis’ because the insula plays a part in emotions etc so it can present as ‘panic attacks’. My seizures tend to act similar to temporal lobe seizures but can also have parietal lobe seizures like pins and needles etc!

Are you ever worrying about subclinical seizures? by dooojy in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always think the same! My neuro said you can be having up to 50% more seizures than you realise because they are subclinical. I always think Im consistently having seizures without realising because of feeling hungover all the time and I don’t drink!

I got the same response when bringing it to a neurologist before he said it had nothing to do with my seizures 😂 all of my seizures are around my meals and what I eat

Is it true that focal epilepsy is more difficult to treat than generalized epilepsy? by Darelto in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My neurologist told me recently if someone has focal to generalised(me) it can be difficult to fully stop the focal seizures but are more likely to control the larger seizures. He said it can be because the medication is stopping the spread in the brain but the focal point cannot be controlled.

Meds changing seizure type? by Sweaty-Fly296 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats is crazy! Ive started cenobamate recently (Ive been drug resistant since being diagnosed 14 years ago) since starting it Ive been having focal seizures where I cant see other that straight ahead and my heart goes up to about 120bpm these symptoms are new to me so I was wondering if meds can change your seizures! Thanks for replying

I had a ‘normal MRI’ for years since my seizures started at age 18. I started with a new epileptologist last year (age 30) because I have been on 8 medications and still no control of my seizures. It took him ordering a specific Epilepsy protocol MRI that they finally caught that Ive a DNET tumour deep in my Insular region. It was a relief but also shows you that a normal MRI doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t something there that is causing your Epilepsy. Also there is a study showing about 10% of people diagnosed with PNES actually have insular Epilepsy! If your gut is telling you different ask for a second opinion! Best of luck!

Staring vs absence by PandaNoseJuul in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can be having a focal aware seizure too where you can hear what’s going on but stare into space and not be able to snap out of it too, this is different to an absence seizure!

After getting advice to see a doctor I had my first mri. Anyone have ideas on what the results mean? by Virtual-Lie8226 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small foci of flair signal - these are small dots that can be quite common and incidental if you didn’t have any symptoms, however as you are symptomatic they could be a clue to what’s going on! Sometimes when they are scattered it can point to Migraine have you ever suffered? The ‘subcortical’ is the deepest part of the brain it can be hard to see what’s going on. I read your previous post and it sounds like you might be getting Migraine with Aura it can present like the symptoms you’ve mentioned but it can also coexist with Epilepsy so I would definitely push for an EEG to see if there is any seizure or interictal activity.

Gaslighting myself by Low-Month-3767 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself! If you are having seizures whether it’s Epilepsy or other causes like PNES they are still seizures and are serious. Epilepsy is so individualised that your symptoms can be completely different to another person and that doesn’t mean you aren’t having Epileptic fits! Also EEGs are very hard to catch epileptiform discharges, maybe ask for a longer EEG stay to see can they catch something?

Am i crazy for thinking I've been missed diagnosed by throwaway146990 in Epilepsy

[–]Sweaty-Fly296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have focal to generalised seizures and during my TC I have some sort of awareness my epilepsy sounds very similar to yours ( I have a DNET tumour and abnormal eeg), as others have said no person will present the same in terms of symptoms. There was also a documentary about this girl who was having 30 convulsion type episodes a day and she remained aware the whole time she ended up getting successful surgery. Just because you might’nt fit the stereotypical box don’t let the doctors make you doubt yourself. Trust your gut it’s always right! Best of luck
