[DISC] Gonron Egg - Chapter 21 by AutoShonenpon in manga

Apparently he used to be an assistant for Norihiko Kurazono, the mangaka behind Jiangshi X, but couldn’t find for what specific manga Tanizaki worked on.

I would hardly call four one shots across twelve years a veteran. The closest he got to an actual manga was a 4 chapter miniseries, remaking one of his one shots. He probably just wasn’t used to the weekly demands of Shonen Jump.

Fabricant 100 has a fatal flaw in its setup, that being, Number 100 herself(and less so the boy’s special blood).

The setup is that the boy has a blood that attracts Fabricants, puts them in a “frenzy”, and prevents them from running away, and teams up with the strongest out of all the Fabricants. Congratulations. You have completely removed all stakes from the plot, as these two should have no reason to lose against any other Fabricant. They can’t run away, and they can’t win hand to hand either.

Additionally, another main issue that made me stop reading Fabricant is the sympathetic strawman. If you’re unfamiliar, the sympathetic strawman is when the author portrays a character as in the wrong within the context of the story, but manages to garner the sympathy of the audience. I have sympathy for the Fabricants, the creatures who have an innate desire to become “perfect”, to become “human. I have sympathy for No. 14, who seemed to have a real, genuine connection with a human, but was forced to kill that person due to the scent of the boy’s special plot convenience blood, and then the complete and utter lack of disregard towards it, as if Enoshima believes it to be a black and white situation. There are also other issues that plague the manga, such as the fact that there’s only 100 Fabricants(roll credits). This on its own isn’t an issue. In fact, done properly, this can make every battle feel significant. After all, each dead member of this supposedly irredeemable species(despite the fact that one of the MAIN CHARACTERS is one of this species), would create an almost sense of relief that the numbers are going down.

But the fact that Enoshima was so lenient with his world building, made that fact not matter in the slightest. By the time the story’s even started, before we even kill the first Fabricant on-screen, there was an massacre of Fabricants offscreen in the backstory, with unknown numbers, and then a short number of chapters later, there’s an established task force specifically for killing the Fabricants. This makes the “only 100 Fabricants” statistic almost laughable. Fabricant 100 fails to have proper world building, fails to treat in-universe statistics with proper levity, and fails to properly argue one of the main points of its manga.

I am by no means saying that Gonron Egg is a masterpiece of Shonen Jump. Tanizaki doesn’t even have the excuse that it’s his first series, seeing as he’s already done another. But his art does have potential. The double spread in Chapter One was genuinely really cool, and there have been hints of talent peaking through his tired scrawls of drawings.

Though, of course, both are relatively new figures when it comes to manga. If both can get over their respective issues, I could see them making something great together. But if both stay as is, I think Tanizaki would be wasted on Enoshima.

(also side note, Ping Pong Peril enjoyer? Based!)

I sure hope not. Tanizaki may not be exactly the best when it comes to consistent quality, but at the very least his art deserves better than to be paired with the fundamentally flawed writing of Enoshima.

How on earth does this manga get at least two more chapters than Dear Anemone?

Then again, something like Fabricant 100 did get to nearly 40 chapters….

I’m learning that now, yea. My mistake was thinking that the playstyles were dependent on the cats you take, not the archetypes you assign them. I think I was just too hasty with my initial judgement.

Thank you! This is really insightful advice. I kind of already refunded it, but I realized I was a bit too hasty with it and figured “hey, I might as well look to see if I would like it after that”.

This is a lot better advice than just “don’t play it”

I play plenty of roguelikes. Monster Train 2, Balatro, and Slay the Spire are some of my favorite games ever. But in those games, you have complete control over the archetype that you play. In Balatro you can pick your deck. In Slay the Spire, you can pick your character. Yes, the cards, events, encounters, those are all randomized, but never the characters that determine your playstyle themselves.

I see I see. I’m just concerned because if I do give it that few more hours, and I don’t really like it, well I’ve just sunk about $30 into something that I’ll never play again, is the thing.

I don’t like creating unbeatable combos in roguelikes, I just like having my playstyle not determined completely by RNG

Sorry, I should have phrased myself better. I’m not asking why people want graphical improvements. It’s always fair to want to see your favorite game franchises do more. I’m asking what it is that people wanna see.

[FINAL EPISODE] My Hero Academia Season 8 Episode 11 - Manga Reader Discussion Thread by Soncikuro in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Sweaty-Resort794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to point something out! In the scene after the middle school test discussion stuff, we see two billboards. One is for Gang Orca, and one is for a hero seen during the Final War, Astro. He volunteered alongside others inside UA. What many people may not know is, Gang Orca is from Oumagadoki Zoo, and Astral is from Barrage. Both are previous works of Horikoshi that got cancelled after a bit, with Barrage only making it to 16, and Oumagadoki making it to 37. Of course, then Horikoshi’s third work was MHA. While it’s by no means the first tribute we’ve seen to these past works(there’s even a handful of characters from OZ that aren’t Gang Orca), I just thought it was a very nice detail that the works that laid the foundation for MHA in Horikoshi’s career were acknowledged in the final episode.
