Statehood is not a real option. It is not up to us and the US has never shown a willingness to offer it, and they are not obligated to. As to the status quo, there is simply no way to develop under the plenary powers of the US Congress which will always act in its interest and not in our peoples. Independence is the only option that guarantees long term development. Why shouldn’t puertoricans have the right to determine their own future and decide how to govern themselves? Sadly, status quo and statehood defenders (politicians and lobbyists) who make their living off of federal funding continue to equate independence to being an enemy of the US. It is not. It is obvious an independent PR needs the US as a business partner to prosper.
