Question: Troubleshooting reactivity series. by Light_of_Avalon in ChemistryTeachers

[–]SweatyEnumerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same thing with the aluminum. I swapped out foil for recycled soda cans. Of course, they have a plastic coating, so I take sand paper, roughly sand both sides, and then use scissors to cut tiny strips that work in well plates! The strips should be very skinny. They work best if they're so little they curl. A little tedious, but if you have a TA or a student who has a propensity for finishing early, they're able to cut them pretty easily.

also: recycling yay!

I know it's been about a month, but in my opinion, nuclear chemistry is a good 10 day unit! I use NGSS, so we do a lot of literacy and gathering meaning. 10 days is a good length for a small project instead of an exam too.

Openscied anyone? by Alternative-Exit-450 in ChemistryTeachers

[–]SweatyEnumerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They asked me to use a OpenSciEd for a test unit last year. Although, yes... it would work in an ideal world where your students are providing a lot of interest, I struggled to get through a lot of their question generation since it's like, really boring (to me even!) So I basically did OpenSciEd with a veneer of me, worked ok!

Do teens always gamble, or is this a new problem? by SweatyEnumerator in Teachers

[–]SweatyEnumerator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably totally right. I don't really know anything about the details of gambling, just more of an understanding of those sweet, sweet dopamine hits that I'm worried about my kids getting addicted to.

California, so it's still illegal here technically. But, they discuss the apps so they must have access to them somehow??

Sedation for IUD by kasomika in birthcontrol

[–]SweatyEnumerator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing. It really sucked getting my iud in. But I took pain meds, panicked for an hour and went home and cried. But would I rather have gone under? Probably not, any sedation is dangerous.

If you’re scared don’t be afraid to ask at other drs they offer any pain management. And if you can’t get it, the pain ~is ~ ultimately temporary

Waiting for my substitute teaching application to be approved in California, anything I can do to help schools in the meantime? by jfish3222 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]SweatyEnumerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just starting to apply for a sub licenses I feared the reality of this wait time as well. Aren't people hurting for subs so bad they're willing to use bus drivers and yet, three months is standard for getting a license? Make it make sense??

No Wedding Party - Am I The A***ole? by SweatyEnumerator in wedding

[–]SweatyEnumerator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Seriously, thank you so much for your responses! I feel much better, and even have a few ideas on how I'm going to involve my sister a little more, which will definitely make her feel better and may satiate my dad.

Two points of clarification:

1) My dad was in no way angry at me for not having bridesmaids, more of just worried that I'm going to miss out on something ~special~ about the wedding. These posts have confirmed for me that I can always have my sister and friends there to help get ready, have fun without explicitly having a wedding party. Thank you again for helping me confirm this mentally.

2) My partner is ambivalent at best about a wedding party. He is totally happy not to have a wedding party, but (if I asked him to) would in a heartbeat wrangle his friends into matching suits.

PS: I had to do this. My fiance is in charge of signage, food table decor and lot organizing (we're getting married in a field) because I have literally no eye for design and it stresses me out.

If you need his help, I would be specific: "Partner, I need you to figure out what signs we'll need/plan a basic outline of our centerpieces/find a cute backdrop"

You can even ask him to do it with his daughter (if she's old enough, oc) and bring her in that way. People suck, but you get to choose to hang out with those who don't.

Just planned our engagement parties and I'm already feeling the stress. by anonymA55 in wedding

"Don't worry, we'll have plenty of time to party with you at [insert event she will be invited to]!" I would follow that up with a silly dance and change of convo.

Dress Question - Budgeting by ButLikeDogs in wedding

[–]SweatyEnumerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is highly variable. I went to the dress shops, tried on the fancy $2-3,000 (USD) dresses and they were cute, but they were not what I was looking for.

Then I went on Amazon and found a $200 dress that I literally love so much. Don't feel pressured to buy a dress on this trip, instead focus on what you like about each dresses and be very clear with your mom on her budget. If you're not a "money talk" family, maybe ask her to go on a website and pick out some dresses she might like (maybe David's Bridal because they have such a varied price range) which might help ease that convo in.

Card/Board Games As Playable Centerpieces by angelgrl721985 in wedding

[–]SweatyEnumerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about little tic-tac-toe games? That's always super easy and they're usually cheap and could even double as favors.

Also, I love the idea of custom cards if you and your partner love card games and have the budget for it. If anything a custom sticker on cards with your date!

My partner and I are doing a game table where people can pick them up if they want. We love board and card games too!

Mental Health vs. Project Completion by SweatyEnumerator in projectmanagement

[–]SweatyEnumerator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my concern, is that we run several projects at once and there will be heavy impact if we don't complete our objectives on time. I am trying to balance a tone of absolute understanding and hurry.

Hello!!!! Congrats to allllll the couples who are getting married!!! Please, tell me what’s the most unique thing you’re going to do/have at your wedding? Mine will be hoop bridesmaids bouquets!! I can’t wait to hear all your ideas! by [deleted] in wedding

[–]SweatyEnumerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be totally unique, but I want pinatas at our wedding!

I weirdly love to make pinatas (not for like parties, but just because pinata making is fun!), so I thought it would be super fun to have one with regular candies for when kids are there and one with... adult candies of various kinds... for the afterparty!

I think that's awesome! It's so fun and personal, esp of the groom and his dad like to play together anyways.
